Weekend Thirteen cleared up the BCS title picture a bit. USC won convincingly against Notre Dame while Florida failed to get the style points needed to make a run at the Trojans and Wolverines. With Arkansas losing to LSU, Florida only theoretically has a chance at the title game. The weekend was not without surprises as Texas lost for the 2nd time in a row while West Virginia eliminated itself from Big East and BCS contention by losing to South Florida. The weekend also featured some great finishes with BYU, Georgia, Oklahoma and Tennessee pulling games out late. This week is Championship Week. The conference championship games for the MAC, Conference USA, ACC, SEC and Big XII will be played. Each of those games, along with the Army-Navy game, is the feature this week.
The MAC champion goes to The Motor City Bowl in Detroit, MI to face either the 7th best Big Ten team or an at-large team. As the Big Ten is getting 2 into the BCS, it will be the at-large team. Central Michigan can score in bunches while Ohio is on a roll.
The winner of this game goes to the Liberty Bowl to play against an SEC school while the loser of this game will most likely be heading to Mobile, Alabama for the GMAC bowl against a MAC team (probably Central Michigan). Houston lost a close game to USM earlier this season while it was still in the post-Miami funk after nearly defeating the Hurricanes in Miami.
I cant believe Im actually going to pick this. Wake Forest is the better team. Georgia Tech has the weapons to win, but not the quarterback. Their defense will keep them in this game, but the pick is Wake. The winner goes to the Orange Bowl while the loser goes to the Chick-Fil-A bowl (formerly the Peach Bowl).
The winner of this game is going to the Sugar Bowl unless Florida wins big and something absolutely screwy happens in the BCS. Arkansas must win this game to get into the BCS at all. Otherwise, LSU is going. It comes down to if Florida will be able to score consistently or if Arkansas will be able to make some plays through the air. Special teams will play a big factor in deciding this game. That favors Arkansas. With LSU not playing this weekend, the loser of this game is probably relegated to the Capital One bowl.
The winner of this game is going to the Fiesta Bowl. A good old school match-up that will be played in the Big XII championship for the very FIRST time in the 10 year history of the conference. Since the loss to Texas back in October, Oklahoma has been on a roll. Nebraska, minus a slip up against Oklahoma State, has only lost to USC and Texas, which was a much better team at the time of the loss. I have to give the edge to Oklahoma. Bill Callahan gets too conservative in big games like this and I think the Oklahoma offense will be able to move the ball against the Nebraska defense. The loser of this game will go to the Cotton Bowl.
Army and Navy square off again. This year Navy is the home team. Navy is the better team but Army did almost knock off Texas A&M earlier this season. This game will win Navy the Commander in Chiefs trophy for the best service team. Navy is slated to go to the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We have an OKC freshman who hasn't played any college; a CA sophomore juco transfer; and a TX sophomore who hasn't played college.
Never can tell who will stand out.
I wasn't a big Bomar fan, he struck me like Joe Don Looney that we had in the late 50s.
Goodness gracious, the amount of trash on the Hawaii field is unbelievable. The fans must be total pigs. Here's hoping none of the players fall on any used druggie needles...
Shameful.
Aloha Stadium is old and outdated, and has two open corners that face the ocean (you've seen the NFL Pro Bowl).
Plus all those environmentally-conscious fans...
I always watch the Pro Bowl and the bowl games out there, and I can't recall it being close to this bad before. Sheesh, I think I can see seagulls circling at mid-landfill.
Just 2 TD's to go for the record!
What I want know is what the heck is up with these officials. They must be blind.
LMAO
Well, I do remember some ridiculously thuggish fights in prior years out there, usually instigated by the Hawaiian team, so I'm not shedding any tears over any shots Hawaii is taking. But yes, the refs are going to lose control if they don't crack down more. Some strange calls, too.
Good game at 21-21.
You just gotta love the Chuck-n-Duck aka Run-n-Shoot offense.
Tight Ends need not apply.
Timmy Chang, who played there before Brennan, was nearly as prolific.
AWESOME game!
Boomer Sooner!
Yep, I'm a former Houstonian, so have seen a lot of June Jones and the Run-n-shoot. Always exciting!
Those were the days: Jerry Glanville and their "outlaw" image. Unfortunately, you can't really run that scheme in the pro ranks because the LBs are too quick and the Safeties are too tough and can cover, not to mention the number of shutdown corners the NFL has.
Good to see Glanville in the game again, though. The WAC really isn't a bad conference.
We have one of the top quarterback recruits coming in this January who had originally committed to Michigan State, came here this week, got stuck during the snow storm, met all the coaches and fell in love with OU. He has officially committed to OU and will start school in January.
Isso/Stoops connection paid off and how could any quarterback not want Josh Heupel for their quarterback coach? Heupel is the one that has been recruiting him.
If you want the latest info, go to http://www.soonerfans.com message board. Some former players along with sports writers post on there. Someone is pretty tied into recruiting because they seem to get the info first.
Yep, it just doesn't work well in the Red Zone in the pro's.
Wow, I sure didn't see that pull when Auburn went undefeated and didn't get to go the big game. The SEC has little pull it seems in that BCS poll as far as I can tell. On top of that, all them sports dudes seem to love USC and ND to no end.
As someone who's played many football games at Aloha Stadium (my high school games were played there); that's just the way it is there when it's windy. The stadium is right at the base of a mountain right next to the ocean. This can create some tremendously powerful winds at times. Anything that's not tied down can get blown on to the field pretty easily. Also football fans in Hawaii have a strange love for confetti that i can't understand. Combine those tow things and you get a lot of rubbish on the field. I was always worried about slipping on a piece of paper and blowing out my knee.
Bomar, last year's quarterback, and Quinn, a lineman, took money from Big Red Sports for jobs they never worked at and never received permission from the Compliance Office at OU to get those jobs.
Bomar was a jerk before that when he kept getting busted for alcohol and didn't like it when Josh Heupel came back to OU as the Quarterbacks coach which was planned all along and happened when Long went to SDSU. Bomar said he didn't need a quarterback coach and didn't get along with Heupel but then Bomar is the idiot that spiked the ball in our bowl game which could have cost us the game. He may be right about not needing a coach because what he needed was a babysitter instead.
Spoiled brat in class as well -- not a very good student either.
I stand corrected.
But I swear I saw a bra laying in that pile of trash around the 40...
the WAC is alright, but really all it is is Hawaii, Boise and Fresno (Fresno had an off year, they're usually pretty good). the rest of the conference is a joke. Those 3 teams deserve better IMO. If I were a PAC-10 official, I'd at least consider adding 2 of them and making a Pac-12 with a conference championship game. both Hawaii and Boise are good already and would get better if invited to the Pac-10 due to the recruiting advantage BSC schools have.
