Jim Webb Threatens to 'Slug' President Bush

Newly elected Senator Jim Webb, D-Va., was so infuriated by a remark from President George W. Bush that the former Marine officer was tempted to punch the commander-in-chief.

The confrontation, disclosed in the influential Washington, D.C.-based publication The Hill, came shortly after the midterm elections at a private White House reception for newly elected lawmakers.

Webb, who defeated Republican Sen. George Allen in Virginia, ran a campaign critical of the administration’s Iraq policy, and has a son, a Marine lance corporal, serving in Iraq.

At the reception, Bush asked Webb how his son was doing.

Webb answered that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, a source close to Webb reported.

The Associated Press quoted Webb as saying, "I told him I'd like to get them out of Iraq."

"I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush countered, according to the source.

Emily Heil wrote in The Hill: "Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t.”

Webb’s spokeswoman Kristian Denny Todd confirmed that "Jim did have a conversation with Bush at that dinner. Basically, he asked about Jim’s son; Jim expressed the fact that he wanted to have him home.”

Todd wouldn’t comment on Bush’s response.

If I were a Senator I would make it a point to run into this silly dork and ask him every day How is his boy.

Wouldnt it be great if every time he met a republican Senator they asked him."How is your boy".

If he worked where I used to work we would ride him like a pony and laugh when he got mad.

We get what we deserve. The barbarians run off the classy folks, cause the classy folks don't like being around them and don't like the trouble.

There was a time when I had a lot of admiration for Jim Webb. I even recommended his last book "Born Fighting"--a nonfiction history of the Scots-Irish in America--to members of my family. Then he changed parties and was running for the Senate. He then managed to lose any dignity he ever possessed. He totally debased himself in his campaign against Allen. It turned into two babies in a playpen smearing feces on each other. He continues to debase himself as senator-elect. Of course he won't be the only dysfunctional Democrat in the Senate. Kennedy, for one, a chronic and untreated alcoholic, is followed around by a squad of handlers who try to keep him out of trouble.

Interesting to speculate what would have happened to him if he had yielded to temptation and slugged the President. Not much I'd guess.

Too bad he din't punch Bush though, Felon's can't be a representative.....

I was thinking he should have given in to his baser impulse (as 'Rats are prone to do) and slugged Bush. Webb would have the shortest "career" of any Senator-elect. Probably wouldn't even be sworn in. Kinda hard to serve a Senate term concurrent with a term in a Federal pen for assaulting the President with intent to do harm.

I hope Virginians are proud of who they have elected to represent them in the Senate. The voters turned out a perfectly good man because of a stupid "macaca" comment, and they elect this clown instead. Way to go, Virginia...

Webb is a loose cannon. He's not fit to serve.

If Webb felt that way, why did he even show up? He's obviously a classless jerk - if he'd had any class at all, he would've stayed home. He also refused to go through the reception line meet-and-greet with President Bush, and acted like a complete a**hole.

I'm proud of President Bush for bristling a little bit and responding the way he did.

No he didn't.

I envy your omniscience. But of course, you already know that.

I don't blame Virginia, but I do blame those that voted for him... they get the bulk of the blame. It is truly sad.

"I envy your omniscience."

Nice.

Webb's comments are all over the place. What you call "omniscience", I call consulting sources other than NewMax. No surprize they are not in this article since it claimes he did something he didn't.

All that you can say is that the published comments do not contain a threat. You cannot say Webb did NOT threaten the President, unless you are omniscient.

Then again, you know that too.

Why does Mr. Webb strike me as one very insecure individual?

Perhaps the best part of Mr. Webb was flushed down the toilet in that leaky condom his daddy was reusing.

Sounds like Webb was upset that his son wasn't getting political favors, now that the father is part of the Democrat ruling class.
