Newburgh An old farmhouse in a residential part of the Town of Newburgh near Orange Lake was the scene of a wild home invasion in which ski-masked intruders were turned back by shotgun blasts that ripped through walls and panicked neighbors.
Police were called to 706 Gardnertown Road Monday night around 8 p.m. in response to reports of gunfire. The owners of the house, a couple in their 20s, said at least three men, possibly Hispanic or light-skinned blacks, burst through their backdoor, pistols drawn. One gunman held the man to the ground, while the others headed upstairs, where the couple's tenant rents a room.
The tenant grabbed a shotgun and fired several times, police said, narrowly missing his landlord. It is unknown if any of the intruders were hit.
Lt. Michael Clancy said neighbors reported seeing the intruders flee the house, firing back at its occupants. None of the home's occupants was injured.

One of the comments at the link:
CHECK THIS OUT! This was first reported last night with the same by-line, John Doherty. The initial report was a much more favorable view to the tenant, almost a hero. The second writing made hime sound much more reckless. From the original story: "...burst into the house, and held one occupant hostage at gunpoint. While one gunmen held the hostage, the other suspects headed for the second floor.A second occupant of the house fled to his room, pulled out a shotgun and fired several times as the attackers approached his door. The intruders fled, they told police, firing as they ran."

Under Scottish Law, the legal term for home invasion was hamesucken. It was punishable with death by hanging.

And damned awful shooting .... a shotgun at point blank range, a (more or less) stationary target the size of a man... and he missed?!
I'd be ashamed to show my face in public.

Classic case of slanted reporting, editorializing while still blinking and saying, "Biased? Me? I'm just Reporting!"
"...shotgun blasts ...ripped through walls and panicked neighbors. ...grabbed a shotgun and fired several times, police said, narrowly missing his landlord...."

Why the left doesn't want us to have guns. So that the underclass (the have-nots, the downtrodden, the marginalized, etc) can take money, property and lives from the privileged (haves, oppressors, etc)
To: Hazcat
no mention of the make/model as usual.
btw, I am getting a shotgun for home defense and to take with me RVing. can I get some advice and info on:
1. What make/model shotgun would be best.
2. Does a shotgun fall under carry / gun-control laws? i.e. is it legal to have in the car or RV in all states as I travel?
any help or info much appreciated.

Make. Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 are the most popular. They come in a pump with 18 inch barrel and are reasonably priced.
Not sure about laws but if the cops have no reason to search you then they won't know.

Get yourself a pump action shotgun, 12 ga or 20 ga (depending upon your tolerance for the recoil...or kick).
A mossberg or Remington 870 are the two best choices..however, if you are concerned about theft, you might want to opt for the lesser expensive Mossberg. (I have both).
You can get a home defense model, with a stock and 18.5 inch bbl at most stores that sell guns for less than $200. Resist the tempation to get a pistol grip shotgun. The recoil is projected right into the hand holding the grip, and it isn't terribly accurate.
As for the gun laws, I dont know..I THINK such a shotgun, stored in a case is ok in most states. Check www.packing.org for more details.
Your biggest problems would likely be in NY, NJ, Mass and MD...However, you might not be going there anyway.

There was a home invasion in my town the other day. The perp had a sawed off shotgun. The homeowners were able to disarm him and held him for the cops. One occupant was wounded during the altercation. I was going to post it to the armed citizen list until I found out that it involved dope.
The perp was a former client or seller and was trying to rip off the dealers.

Note that this is New York State, up the river a bit from NYC. It's quite a ways up river from New York being very close to West Point and surrounded by mostly rural towns and farms. The city of Newburgh is the town where Orange County dumps it's welfare tenants and the only people seeing a lifestyle improvement are the Slum Lords with political connections.
