President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki will be putting off their meeting by one day, the White House said Wednesday.
The delay comes after the high-stakes summit was marred by public disclosure of U.S. doubts about al-Maliki's capacity to control sectarian violence and a walkout of Iraq's coalition government by 30 parliamentarians loyal to radical anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
Five Cabinet ministers and 30 lawmakers suspended their participation in Parliament saying their action was necessary because the meeting in Jordan constituted a "provocation to the feelings of the Iraqi people and a violation of their constitutional rights." Their statement did not explain that claim.
"The reality on the streets of Baghdad suggests Maliki is either ignorant of what is going on, misrepresenting his intentions, or that his capabilities are not yet sufficient to turn his good intentions into action," the Times quoted the memo as saying.
Al-Maliki and Bush are meeting in Amman, the Jordanian capital, Wednesday and Thursday in a summit aimed at halting Iraq's escalating sectarian violence and paving the way for a reduction of American troops.
"We are sticking to our position. ... The boycott is still valid," Falih Hassan, a Sadrist legislator, said in an interview with The Associated Press. "Bush is a criminal who killed a lot of Iraqis and we do not want him to interfere in Iraq's affairs. The Iraqi government should negotiate with the U.N. Security Council, not with the leader of the country that is occupying Iraq."

The Security Council responded to a request from al-Maliki, who said a top government priority is to assume full responsibility for security and stability throughout Iraq but that it needs more time.

If we pull out now, we can go get Iran before they get nukes.
Iraqis don't want democracy, they haven't earned democracy, they don't deserve democracy.
Get our military out from under those ungrateful bastards and let them suffer the consequences of 30 years of stupidity.
Didn't Maliki just meet with Ahdmadinutjob? I imagine the pressure is coming more from his friend in Iran than Fat Boy... though I don't doubt that has a play in the equation. Heaven help them if they pull something to publically embarass Bush.
Mole, heck, according to Fox News it was Steven Hadley.
Bottom line this President is fighting enemies both foreign and domestic... He is America's beacon of hope in these tragic times.
Yes, Malike did meet with him, and I think what he will probably do - after having gone to the Nutjob for "help" - is to simply refuse to meet with Bush. Sadr, of course, threatened to drop out of the government if he met with Bush, so that's negative pressure from that angle; at the same time, I think Maliki now has the support of Iran, and we have been so low-key that he feels he's pretty safe in just ignoring us. It would be a great embarrassment to Bush, and I sure hope he doesn't pull something like this. Even the stalling is bad, but not showing up at all would be a major slap in the face.
I think Ahmanutjob took the American elections as a statement that Bush has no support anywhere, is totally finished, and has no power any longer. Of course, he misunderstands our system, but that's how he sees it, and that's how he's acting, simply moving in and taking over Iraq with the help of Maliki.
We are watching perception becoming reality.
I think this is the first year in a while that someone from the Administration wasn't visiting the troops at Thanksgiving. 3.5 years later and we can't even keep Baghdad Airport open.
Klinton plants that have been there since they left....they are running another government you know....
Perhaps, although I think that the Iranians may be overestimating it. Whatever Maliki does and what Bush does in response is going to be a test of their theory. I guess we have to stay tuned...
I would expect that the Survey Group has seen this memo, and I would expect it was someone on that group who leaked it. I find it disgusting that the NYTimes would publish it on the day of, or day before, the Maliki/Bush meetings. Typical Times, working every day to undermine our country. The reporter should be hauled into DOJ and told he reveals his source or goes to jail TONIGHT. The leaker should be scorned in public; if the leaker is on the Baker committee, the committee should be disbanded immediately, their report put in the trash can, and they should be scorned as well.
Of course it may have been a "mole" leak, but then we have to understand that Muktada Al Sadr does have to go, along with his Al Madhi Army. They are financed and supplied by Iraq. The goal is to make an axis like an arrow pointed at the heart of Israel: Iran, Iraq, and the arrows tim: Syria , pointed at the heart of Israel. They intend to convert Jordan by causing the Palestinians on the West bank to revolt and seize Jordan. Israel will then have to fight a 3 front war with its back to the sea.
This is the strategic goal of the Shia, and then the nuclear weapons and oil will found an international game of blackmail, social revolt in Europe, and the establishment of a World Wide Caliphate. Muktada Al Sadr and his henchmen have to be neutralized, by force of strategic weapons if necessary.( B-52s , Diego Garcia)Maliki needs to decide whether he wants to live, or die a martyr's death. And Dubyah is about to inform him of that fact. Thats why Maliki took off for home from Jordan, to get his Madhi Army friends ready.
To Maliki it makes sense, and that might be good sense, and the message is Also:
Publicly.
on that post?
Have you seen anything not publically, or are you wishing he is doing something privately.
So far the only scuttlebutt I hear is they are deadlocked.
Hint: Install BIG picture view
If we had only done this earlier, instead of listening to the idiot neocons about democracy, we would not be having any of these troubles.
