Good choice on his part.
Regards, Ivan
Then again, the only democratic senator elected in all that time was Kennedy in 1960. I keep telling folks that 2 Senators in 88 years is the entire catalogue of people going straight from congress to the White House but they don't believe me. There will not be a President Hillary, Obama, or McCain.
Odds are on a Governor. George Bush Sr, who was running as an incumbent VP is the only non Governor to win election since Richard Nixon.
How many mayors have been elected?
I agree. He's a very nice man and a good doctor. I think he realized he just didn't have the support he needed to run. Governor would be good for him.
Actually, I just researched it. Kennedy and Harding are the ONLY two Senators directly elected President. 15 other former Senators became President, but just these two ever moved directly from the Senate to the White House.
Monroe, Quincy Adams,Jackson, Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, Tyler, Pierce, Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Benjamin Harrison, Truman, Lyndon Johnson and Nixon all served in the Senate. But were out of the Senate when elected. We are on our 43rd Presidency now. 2/43 shot of a sitting Senator winning. I like me them odds.
You know more about the American political system than 98% of Americans.
My hat is off to you for that.
He's not a Republican senator. He's a private citizen who would run as an outsider, if he would have run. It makes a difference to American voters, as ridiculous as it sounds.
