Ugh.
What the hell is going on that every Christian organization is getting infiltrated by environmentalists?!?!?
I mean, seriously. Every organization now is getting guys who want to make the environment a big issue.

faced complaints in recent years about its finances, leadership and plans to veer into nontraditional policy areas And yet this is considered a "setback" that they won't have a new leader who wants to veer into nontraditional policy areas?

How is this a setback? Seems to me it's a needed corrective.
That's what liberals do. They infiltrate. Who was it that said that any organization that is not firmly conservative will drift leftward over time. Seems to me like the CC came through this time.

It's been my feeling for some time that there is a concerted "vast left wing conspiracy" to infiltrate every institution in this country. This articles is proof to me. We, as conservatives, need to fight fire with fire - we need to infiltrate their sacred cows the same way. You divide, destroy & conquer from within.
To: TitansAFC
Since the MSM runs this country, its policies, and its culture, one must comply in order to receive good press.
Good press is the ultimate high, the gold ring, the goal of any organization hoping to influence the public.
To: TitansAFC
I wouldn't perceive losing someone who morally equivocates "global warming" with abortion on demand- to be a "setback" for the organization.

I didn't even think the Christian Coalition was active any longer. I didn't see any effort in 2006 to get out the Christian vote. In 2002 and 2004 they did an excellent job.

The Rev. Joel Hunter, who was scheduled to take over the socially conservative group in January from Roberta Combs, said he had hoped to focus on issues such as poverty and the environment. You do that, Joel, by expanding economic freedom. Real simple.
To: TitansAFC
they have saturated the government and education job market and are expanding outward.
You should try randomly calling any Department of Fish and Game or Forest Service office and chatting with the first person you get on the line...about 9 times out of 10 you will get an environMENTAL whacko on the line.
Occasionally, I talk to a sane one, but they keep their voice low to avoid persecution.

I say take their sacred cows and beat the stuffing out of em

I've never been actively involved with the CC, but I get the sense from the outside that the wheels started coming off when Ralph Reed left.

The Environment?????
"Sure! What's the big deal? It works for me!"
To: Tree of Liberty
That is when it started, but even in 2002 and 2004 they did a fairly respectable job. Not so in 2006. Then you have all the liberal pastors like Rick Warren, etc. pushing the liberal environmental agenda, which damages the Christian Right.

This is surprising. Northland is seen in our area as a conservative, Bible-based church. Many, many people have left my left-leaning ELCA church and ended up at Northland. Others who are staying, hoping our liberal pastor will leave, visit Northland to get a good, Bible-based sermon. I guess Hunter is not as conservative as we thought. Northland is huge, by the way, our only mega-church (except for First Baptist, often called Baptist World because of its proximity to all the other worlds.)

There's nothing wrong with being concerned about the environment or poverty. It's how you approach the issues that makes the difference - if he intended to use the organization as just another extension for tried and failed leftist policies, then the organization was right to resist him on this.

organization [Christian Coalition] wouldn't let him expand its agenda beyond opposing abortion and gay marriage.
The Rev. Joel Hunter, who was scheduled to take over the socially conservative group in January from Roberta Combs, said he had hoped to focus on issues such as poverty and the environment.
"These are issues that Jesus would want us to care about," said Hunter, a senior pastor at Northland Church in Longwood, Fla.
There are very clear scriptural citations supporting positions against abortion and gay marriage. I cannot find any citations in, either, the Old Testament, or the New Testament, or traditional commentaries, for that matter, that directly mention anything about protecting the environment through government action.
As for poverty, the Christian Church and all of the individual Christians within it are charged with feeding and clothing the poor as well as visiting those in prison. There are literally thousands of religious and non-religious charities as well as hundreds of church sponsored, individual actions, through which Christians can participate in these activities. They do not need a politically active group to try to influence the government to do so.
His resignation is the latest setback for the once-powerful group.
Far from a setback, Rev. Hunters withdrawal appears to be an advancement in clarity of vision and singularity of purpose within the organization. Generally, clarity of vision and singularity of purpose strengthens an organization.

The earliest, actually.
