Then paper money is also illegal as the illiterate can't tell one denomination from another.

His abilities make me forget he is blind most of the time.

That reminds me of this very morning, when Fox and Friends had Andrea Bocelli on as a singing guest.

Just as the segment was ending, Doocy had a brain fart and stuck out his hand to shake goodbye.

Absolutley! What's wrong with having braille markers on the currency.

I'm still working on Jefferson, Hamilton and Franklin.

Better one than posted so far:
Franklin: Lou Christie, "Lightning Strikes" (Me Again)

What is funny, is that my local paper, which runs the Washington Post and AP stories will report on this as if we are all evil for even having paper money like this in the first place. Of course I should then call them up and demand that they deliver a braille (sp?) version of the paper to me in the future.

> Probably a dumb decision, but has anyone actually read the decision? Who knows, maybe there is a provision in the ADA that a Judge hearing this case could not in good faith come to any other conclusion(?) If so, Congress is to blame, not the Judge. Reading the opinion and the statute is the least we owe a judge before we go off on him. <

A fair point. But the statue itself is virtually a vipers' nest of complexity. See here:

http://www.ada.gov/pubs/ada.htm#Anchor-Sec-46919

[And that's without all the implementary regulations that have subsequently been enacted by administrative fiat!]

I think it's truly distressing that the Congress is able to create such a complicated monstrosity, with its maddeningly detailed controls over the lives of private citizens -- no doubt claiming Constitutional authority under the power to regulate interstate commerce. To say the Founders would turn in their graves might be the understatement of the Millenium.

The judge who makes this ORDER is an idiot. What a self-important jerk. Remove him from the bench.

For Jefferson, has anybody yet suggested "Lay Down Sally?"

Having said that, this whole decision is stupid. It belongs in the halls of Congress or the Bureau of Engraving, NOT in the hands of some looney-tune federal judge.

As I say in my original comment I agree that it's not a judge's job to do this. Also agreed that there may be other solutions besides size differences.

But I long ago noticed the federal government ordering private sector and municipalities to spend billions to comply with laws for disabled people passed by Congress while blithely ignoring the problems blind people have with money printed by the government.

One solution is to turn over the design of currency to the private sector (say Halliburton) which will prompt Congress to impose regulations requiring that the notes be "readable" by the blind.

The paper is dimpled by the printing process. Seems to hold up well.

I assume you have tried to keep a wallet of all those different size Euro bills in order? I have and I despise them.

I've travelled all over the world and can't recall any other major country that has "one sized" bills for the different denominations.

Can you?

The United States hasn't gotten where it is today by blindly (ahem) following every other country.

I have to agree. However, the written driving tests should also be in brail. I know of no place in the country that has driving tests for the blind. /sarcasm

The Mint has tried for years to make braile work on bills. The marks don't last. A changeover would cost billions if they make the denominations different sizes.

The Judge is a nitwit.

Simply being in America is unfair to the blind so lets make a perfect society where everyone not perfect is ship out.

We could save a lot of money - you have a problem, gone, you poor, gone.

This judge is simply implement the democrat partly Hitler option.

There was a blind fellow that used to run the concession stand in the Craighead County Courthouse here in Arkansas. You COULD NOT fool the guy. He could tell somehow.

There are already bills recognizable by blind people. They are called coins. :)

It's amazing how people on this thread are defending the generations of Federal bureaucrats who arrogantly decided that blind Americans can be treated more shabbily than blind foreigners.
