Republicans gird for fight over amnesty for illegals [Kyl might filibuster Bush's amnesty bill]
Washington Times ^ | November 13, 2006

Sen. Jon Kyl said yesterday that a Republican-led filibuster would be on the table to block immigration legislation supported by congressional Democrats and President Bush that grants citizenship rights to illegal aliens. "It would be in order," the Arizona Republican told radio host Laura Ingraham yesterday. "My only question is whether we've got the votes to do it." The comments highlight the deep divide between most congressional Republicans and the White House over an explosive political issue. And, coming from the No. 4 Republican in the chamber, the tough talk suggests the final two years of Mr. Bush's presidency could see heightened belligerence from both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.

If Bush's amnesty lets in a terrorist who blows up the Lincoln Memorial, should both Bush AND Cheney be impeached, or only Bush?

What's not to get? This isn't rocket science: Millions of illegals-turned-citizens equals Permanent Democrat Majority in America.

Sorry, but "disappointment" is a Daschle waffle-word. I'm not disappointed with Bush, I'm furious, outraged and incensed. As I said above, he'll deserve to be impeached if one of the illegals he's letting in blows up something big.

the deep divide between most congressional Republicans and the White House

A divide alright. The congressional Republicans in question are conservatives, the Bush administration isn't. A helluva divide.

No doubt about it. Either the GOP establishment is deluded into believing they'll be able to grab a good chunk of the tens of millions of new voting citizens from South of the border, or they don't really care if they do or not.

The unions are licking their chops.

Meanwhile, the media fawns over the other Senator from Arizona, the crazy bustard.

Kyl for President - that one I can get behind. I wonder what his stances are on guns, eminent domain and on McStain-Feingold. That is the true test of a politician - how do they view our most basic rights.

Let us not forget Sen. Byrd, who singlehandedly blocked the 2002 Senate Amnesty Bill, and voted against the 2006 Amnesty B Bill.

S. 2611 (Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006)
Byrd (D-WV), Nay

"Supporters of the House-passed extension of the so-called Section 245(i) provision were quick to claim that it is not an amnesty. The issue, they argue, is where you fill out your paper work - here or abroad. That is nonsense - N-O-N-S-E-N-S-E, nonsense. Section 245(i) - amnesty is amnesty - pure and simple . . . . It is lunacy - sheer lunacy - that the President would request, and the House would pass, such an amnesty at this time. That point seems obvious to the American people, if not to the administration."

- Senator Robert C. Byrd, Floor Statement, March 18, 2002

Kyl recieved a a "C" grade from Gun Owners of America

Not so great, but a lot better than (his fellow AZ senator) McCain's "F-".

Nothing will happen on this. That's the beauty of Congress - nothing serious gets done regardless of who is in charge.

Why do you think Kyl stands a better chance than Hunter? Because the former's a Senator and the latter's a congressman, or because of Kyl's (more moderate) politics?

Both are relative unknowns (at the moment).
