I am not for a government health system but it worries me that some of the comments on this thread will be taken literally and people will not seek help when they need it.
Yes in Britain we have waiting lists to see consultants etc but not for emergency care especially in the case of a baby with a high fever. That is why some people deliberately collapse and get taken to hospital to jump the queue. I doubt if the wait in the emergency room is any less in the States than in Britain.
Other aspects of your medical system are better than ours but emergency care is not one of them Britain and I am sure Canada as well would be very similar to the US.
