U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
ABC News ^ | November 27, 2006 | Joe Goldman and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 11/27/2006 11:30:43 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials "strongly suggested" President Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.

But the girls have stayed on, celebrating their 25th birthday over the weekend and producing even more headlines about their activities.

Officials say the media coverage upstaged publicity plans for the new U.S. Ambassador Anthony Wayne, who had only recently arrived in the country.

Neither the White House nor the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires responded to requests for comment.

The Argentinean press blitz followed a report on "The Blotter" last week that Barbara Bush's purse and cell phone were stolen last weekend while dining at the popular San Telmo outdoor marketplace despite being guarded by the Secret Service.

Stories of the twins' visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.

According to sources, the U.S. embassy encouraged the two girls to cut their stay short because the added attention was making their security very difficult.

But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

Thursday night, an ABC News producer was able to walk into their hotel unchecked and engage Barbara Bush in conversation while she checked her e-mail on a computer in the lobby. Jenna sat talking with friends on a sofa nearby. No Secret Service agents were anywhere to be seen in the lobby, according to ABC News' Joe Goldman.

And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders.

Sources tell ABC News the twins plan to stick to their original itinerary and stay in Buenos Aires until Thursday.

did you know that Danny DeVito has signed some of the recent California bills into law?

Huh? Danny DeVito? Danny DeVito was a fictional character played in the movie you are referring to by Vincent Benedict.

Sounds like they're, in effect, telling the media to stick it! Good for them! The media will make up stories no matter where they go; they have no control over what is printed or reported.

Go ahead and tell me that you would call Clinton courageous, and cheer her on, if she ignored US security warnings on the taxpayers' dime

I wouldn't call Chelsea Clinton courageous

But I also would NOT demand that she cut her vacation short .. Especially if she didn't do anything wrong

She is allowed to take trips to other countries .. just like the Bush girls are allow

It the President's daughters must live in a convent things are pretty bad.

When traveling outside the U.S. it is wise to listen to Embassy and state department advisories and not shrug them off. Some have no other choice but to stay. In quite a few situations then U.S. troops must put their lives at risk to get scoffers out who have the sympathy of the world for being captives despite warnings.

There are some very rough places in South America. Places where 6 year olds will come up behind you and place a switchblade to the calf of your leg or your ankle. Sometimes they cut. Bye bye foot. One such city is Salvador with the street orphans.

Fortunately for all concerned this seemed to be a false alarm likely stemming from the robbery. There is but one wise action to take if you can in a foreign nation and you become at risk. Get Out. That applies to all except military ordered to be on station.

The family of the POTUS whether their name is Bush, Clinton, Smith, or whoever have a responsibility to as much as possible within reason not to get into a situation making them a National Security Risk.

She could have had her purse stolen in Chicago. I am sure she is safer than if she were in New Orleans.

The new ambassador is upset that he's not getting a lot of attention. Poor thing.

Since the rest of the story isn't true, that part is likely not true either.

When traveling outside the U.S. it is wise to listen to Embassy and state department advisories and not shrug them off.

When are you going to understand that there were none given that were not followed? The Bush daughters have been working in cooperation with the Embassy, not in defiance of it.

The girls have done nothing wrong.

I think you may have misread the last paragraph...

"And yesterday the Bush twins were spotted at the Sunday soccer matches, wearing team jerseys and sitting in the owner's box, watching Argentina's top team Boca Juniors compete. Several games have been canceled due to violence in the crowds this year. In fact, last weekend no spectators were allowed to attend the match other than season ticket holders."

Different weekend...different match.

Funny how the press will twist their paragraphs into verbal double-jointed pretzels to do anything to make anyone associated with the President look bad Is there anything more tawdry than a "journalist."?

Incidentally (even though you have gone away), my post was about Bush supporters and Bush bashers in general. I did not say that you specifically called him names (though you may well have.....I no longer pay any attention to your posts because your incessant bashing sickens me).

You have shown contempt for his daughters on this thread. I don't think I have to point that out to you.

Hope you wake up in a better mood. Actually, I hope you live the rest of your life in a better mood......

It must stink to be you.
