Rangel: Men Join The Army Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career”
Stop The ACLU ^ | 26-Nov-06 | John Stephenson

Hot Air has the video:

I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

As soon as the Democrats take control they allow people like Rangel to be their mouthpieces and just as quickly find a foot in that mouth. This quote is Rangel's explanation of why he supports the draft. One would think after the Kerry episode these idiots would be more careful in how the word things. I don't know how anyone could interpret Rangel's statement as anything other than a direct insult to those serving in our military. Apparently, Rangel does not believe being in the army is a decent career. Many people in the military do make the choice to join because of a conviction to a patriotic duty. Those are the kind of people I want in our military. If we were to follow Rangel's advice of a draft our military would be full of people that do not want to be there.

Rangel has not an ounce of honor in him so it's not surprising that he would make such a vacuous statement.

Men with no honor cannot understand it. Therefore, they give it no value and place it in the liability column on the balance sheet of life.

I read a fascinating book by a son of Greek immigrants in NYC. His environment gave him no encouragement and he was working in his father's restaurant. Then he approached the Marines. The Marine recruiter tested him and sent him to college where he majored in classical archaeology. On 911 he was a district attorney in NYC and in the Marine Reserves. He was called up to look into the thefts reported at the Iraqi National musuem and to retrieve those treasures.

To me this story shows how military can help people develop and also that some very talented, knowledgable people serve in the ranks.

Rangel's vision is the redistribution of wealth from those who work to those who don't work (his constituents.) If he can throw sand in the gears of a Great Nation along the way, so much the better.

Oh...I get it...he's the "Desmond Tutu" of the US.

Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight - wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans traditionally love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, big league ball players, the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and never will lose a war, because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.

If you're not running for reelection you can say just about anything you want, and they do.

Rangel is a total Fool.

Yes many Men join to get out of places where there is high unemployment. thats called a chance at a better life!!!

Yes its not College..college costs money and if Rangel's answer is America's taxpayers must pay for the college education of every person that cant find a great job...

then Rangel is a total LIAR, because there is no one who can provide that.
It is a fantasy Lie of the Left.

Rangle is as close to Treason as it gets.
Rangle went to Korea..and came back a Pinko.

Even if that is true it sounds like a Great idea to me!

When Jimmy Carter put me on the street with no future, I enlisted in the Air Force and haven't looked back!

A certain segment of the populace clings gleefully to this notion that only dummies go into the military. That segment is composed of what I call the marginal college graduates, the ones who got their degrees but never really amounted to anything. They are disappointed with their own achievements and must cling to the sheepskin, and their early achievement of it, as their only real emblem of status.

These are the idiots who still believe, for example, that only the incredibly gullible or the incredibly inept served in Vietnam. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is well-documented that the percentage of Vietnam vets with degrees is higher than for their non-veteran comtemporaries and, similarly, that the vets have considerably higher average incomes.

This is all about reassuring the cow-college clockpunchers that they really are part of some elite, and getting their votes in the process.

Men Join The Army Get Stuck In Iraq Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career”

Which is essentially what Kerry said and ended up in hot water for. Democrat party had to tell him to STFU. Will the Rat party say anything this time? Not to mention, Republicans? We shouldn't let the bastard slide on this.

No, you forget about it jerk. Not everyone is willing to sit on their backsides and take potshots at the very institutions that grant them that freedom. As mind boggling as you might find it - some people do recognize the need to fight for our freedoms. Some people recognize that an ounce of prevention is in fact worth a pound of cure. That it is far better to deploy soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight terrorism than it is to deploy them to clean up after 9/11 like incidents.

No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment.

Absolutely wrong. I'd like to think I'm fairly bright. A BS in Engineering, two Masters degrees, and a job that grossed six figures last year. Guess what, when my company had a need for someone on a project that would've meant going to Iraq - I volunteered. I have a wife and two kids, yet if my country needs me over there, I'll go. As it was, I wasn't selected for the project. Relieved? Yes. Disappointed? Yes I was that too.

If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.

I take issue with the implication that the Army (or any other branch of the military) is not a good career choice. Sure, it is not for everyone. Neither is selling insurance, retail sales, writing pure BS, or any other career. But just because the author has issues with the Army or military in general, he shouldn't draw sweeping conclusions about everyone else's feelings.

I can't imagine what the district is like that votes this idiot to office. They must be a bunch of absolute idiots. I know I'll never go to his area, so I don't have to worry about spending money, which would indirectly support him. Seriously, what must it be like to walk down the street in his town.

His district is Harlem, NY. Not a neighborhood noted for pinnacles of success.
