Rangel: Men Join The Army Only If They Can’t Have A “Decent Career”

Hot Air has the video:
I want to make it abundantly clear: if theres anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.
As soon as the Democrats take control they allow people like Rangel to be their mouthpieces and just as quickly find a foot in that mouth. This quote is Rangel's explanation of why he supports the draft. One would think after the Kerry episode these idiots would be more careful in how the word things. I don't know how anyone could interpret Rangel's statement as anything other than a direct insult to those serving in our military. Apparently, Rangel does not believe being in the army is a decent career. Many people in the military do make the choice to join because of a conviction to a patriotic duty. Those are the kind of people I want in our military. If we were to follow Rangel's advice of a draft our military would be full of people that do not want to be there.

I did enlist for a job in 1973. It wasn't my only job prospect but it seemed like a good move at the time. It was not a desperate move; it was not my only option, but it was a good move for me.

I wonder if Charles Rangel is a part of the George Soros international drug cartel. He certainly is well positioned for it.

It's a good thing for Rangel that the Endangered Species Act protects vermin, he's safe.

I can't imagine what the district is like that votes this idiot to office.
They must be a bunch of absolute idiots. I know I'll never go to his area,
so I don't have to worry about spending money, which would indirectly support
him. Seriously, what must it be like to walk down the street in his town.
Good God, they've got to be Zombies or sidewalk licking morons.

Charles Rangel's put-downs of decent Americans are a lot like Ward Churchill's put-downs of decent Americans.

No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits Criminy man, this was exactly one of the reasons I did join the Corps ... duty was first. OF course I wound up in the first Gulf War but hey ... I thought I was going to wind up in the Soviet Union when I signed the paper.

If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.Like, for example, the State Treasurer in Colorado who voluntarily resigned his position so he put on his uniform again and help run the Iraqi elections. Poor guy had bupkus for a career and so he had to go to Iraq.

Sorry for my language, but Rangel pi$$es me off. Makes my service during Vietnam and the Cold war seem like a waste of my time. Plus, I have more degrees, experience, travel, and a higher I.Q than that a$$hole Rangel.

Look what is happening to education. They drag kids to school, but they can't make them want to learn. A lot of kids have learned that they can shrug their shoulders and flip the bird to the establishment. No one can do anything about it. OOOOOH, send them to the pricipal, suspend them, expel them. So What?
How about having this same mentality in the military? AWOL, so what? Pushups? Oh, yeah! Sure! Not!
They have no future and they don't care!

Democrats haven't even gained any control yet and they keep reminding everyone why they lost power. The first time I heard mention of the name Waxman after the election, I almost became ill.

"Rangel served in Korea"
This latest from `Rantel' will stir up a backlash. Then watch him wave his Bronze Star in your face and roar, "if you never saw combat then shut up!"
Some LexisNexis ranger needs to dredge up his actual citation. Note: the Bronze Star can be awarded for noncombat achievement, unlike the Silver Star.
Ol' Charlie's never gone into detail about his Korea service. If he saw serious combat action, he would begin every speech mentioning the fact, just to silence his critics.

I studied hard and did my homework while in high school and college so I wouldn't end up getting stuck in the House or Senate like Charlie the Chump.

Rangel's just upset that given the entry standards of the volunteer Army, many of his constituents cannot get in.
