A good sign for individual US servicemen perhaps but a disaster for Iraq. When people are stoning the motorcade of the country's PM, things are coming apart at the seams.

This is Sadr city. Never a strong hold of support for the Iraqi government.

But the PM needs to get off his duff and start chopping heads.

Not necessarily. They can follow their democratic constitution and impeach him and then replace him.

Let W drive through Berkeley and you'd probably get the same response.

Actually, that's a good thing. Notice it is Shiites stoning their fellow Shiite. That means their divisions are increasing, which means it may be possible to break the Shiite stranglehold over the governmnet. That's very important if we want to limit Iran's influence.

The seam you see coming apart is a minor split. Most all the seams are well sewn and intact.

You seem to forget the worst American enemy is our own left. They caused the problem by their cowardice.

Disagree. We started with a revolution, then had two more small revolts that were quickly suppressed, then had one gigantic one. We're doing okay. I was talking to a USMC sargent today. He noted that the shortest insurgency we were ever invloved with lasted 13 years. Iraq will not stabilize overnight, but it will stabilize. He wanted to go back, too, but his bosses wanted him here to train the young guys.
