NEW YORK (AP) - Parents still seem to do the prompting when it comes to "please" and "thank you," but maybe they're too well mannered to chastise children for talking too loudly in the movie theatre. And maybe it's because they have food in their mouths - and know better not to talk - that they don't tell the kids not to chat and chew.
Of course, it also could be that the grown-ups have forgotten their own childhood etiquette lessons - and that they're committing many of the same sins themselves.
Don't worry. Whoopi is coming to the rescue.
Whoopi Goldberg's "Big Book of Manners" is one of several new illustrated children's books that emphasize good behaviour.
"Parental overseeing has been on the wane," Goldberg says. "I want to go up to parents and say, 'Do you see that your child has no clue, that they're out of step?'"

Wookie Goldberg/Manners... What am I missing here?
What! She has manners! Surely not!
I wish ole trash mouth will implement some of these "manners". If anything, SHE needs some manners.
A woman who, when talking about Bush, points to her crotch! Children should not be allowed around her. Including her own.
I would have to agree, kids are rude but I am certain every older generation thinks the younger generation is rude.
If this book were coming from anyone other than Whoopi I would think it worthy.....
She's beyond disgusting ... .
The book title must be a typo; it should be Whoopi's "Big Book of Manure".
Coming up next, "The Paul Reubens Little Book of Masturbation Etiquette".
I thought this had to be satire! Unfortunately, I see the book listed on Amazon.
Ironic that she mentions conservatives she meets have treated her with respect despite knowing her political views - a concept she cannot fathom, obviously.
And when did the phrase "out of step" take the place of "ill-mannered little cretins"?
I'll stick with Emily Post or Letitia Baldridge. My dog has more etiquette than Whoopi.
Silk purse? Meet Sow's Ear. *Rolleyes*
Any parent who buys a "manners" book for their children written by this woman may need some psychological help!
Plus, it sounds as if her aim is to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. The book is probably aimed at kids who are growing up with no discipline, and no good parental examples of morals and manners. If she's hoping the etiquette will "rub off" on the parents, as the article states, she's a couple generations too late.
Sometimes celebrities screw up and do something good, even if they aren't one of your favorites. Jamie Lee Curtis has been writing some fantastic children books that I have been reading to my kids. If I see Woopi's book at the store, I will at least check it out to see if it's worth buying.
AMEN!!! Go Whooopie!! I just had 2 people for 12 DAYS...FOOD and a Fabulous Guest Quarters, and they didn't even buy us a LUNCH!!! Or a thank you note!!
Conservatives USUALLY have manners////liberals are rude.
