An Arizona rancher who has waged a five-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal aliens from crossing his property has been ordered by a civil jury to pay nearly $100,000 for a 2004 incident during which he confronted a family hunting on his land. Roger Barnett, 62, who began rounding up illegal aliens after he said they destroyed his property, killed calves and broke into his home, was ordered to pay Ronald Morales, his father, his two young daughters and their friend on claims of negligence, false imprisonment and emotional distress. ...

The plantiffs are native born citizens.
Of course, for a lot of people, Mexicans are sub-human and not worthy of citizenship.
Would take more than tort reform. Congress would have to strip Article III courts of the ability to hear civil rights cases brought by illegals.
Don't see that happening. These scumbag special interest groups, like the ACLU and MALDEF, allege civil rights violations as part of their methodology for harrassing their opponents into submission. Note in the article that Barnett was sued in three separate suits...designed to break him with legal fees and court costs.
civil rights groups like this should not be allowed attorney fees.
I have never seen any FReeper make that claim.
Of course Mexicans are human. But between 12-20 million of them are not worthy of citizenship because they have made a mockery of our immigration laws. Do you disagree?
Irrelevant even if true (kindly provide the factual basis for your assertion). They trespassed.
Of course, for a lot of people, Mexicans are sub-human and not worthy of citizenship.
Perhaps to some...but you're painting with a broad brush here. Most FReepers are concerned with illegal aliens. By virtue of breaking the law to come here, they shouldn't be rewarded with citizenship when there are far more qualified people waiting around the world for citizenship.
***You must enjoy this travesty, are you one of the open border scum who like criminals who overstay their visas or those who just invade our country?***

Rancher looses suit brought by hunters...
(cut to the chase)
"Morales' lawsuit claims they were legally crossing land Barnett leases from the state. The Morales are U.S.CITIZENS of Mexican descent."
The jury found in FAVOR of all five plantiffs Wednesday.
And as for YOU,huntsvilletxveteran, maybe the jury and Judge were all scum also. Tisk, tisk, tisk.
Why does the Washiongton Times, Jerry Seper, and many members at FR have to lie about the facts of this case.
I argee, nor should they get taxpayer money!
Lies are always relevant.
I believe you are correct, although my next thought was: There shouldn't be any such thing (as "government land")
***Irrelevant even if true (kindly provide the factual basis for your assertion). They trespassed. ***
If we closed up Every inch of GOVERNMENT land that someone has a lease on there would be NO room to to do anything off the pavement.
Think on it.
In the East and South there are timber leases.
In the west, Timber, mining, grazing leases.
Close it all because someone has a lease on it and there is NOTHING left.
Besides, the GOVERNMENT sets the rules, not the leasee, and in this case the Goverenment has said...thou shalt not keep American Citizens off of Government land!
That's the issue, and--right or wrong--it's the context within which this incident and all other border incidents involving Hispanics are going to be viewed. If you think it's unfair that "five U.S. citizens of Hispanic descent" are getting smeared with the broadbrush here, I suggest you become concerned about and help solve the illegal alien problem.
In the East and South there are illegal aliens. In the West, illegal aliens. Try to solve the problem because the United States has the sovereign right and duty to prevent invasions of all kinds in violation of its laws, and Mexicans scream that their rights are being violated. This, despite the fact that the Mexican government wouldn't tolerate a similar invasion across ITS borders for a second.
And Morales lied his @ss off under oath while testifying.
"During cross-examination, however, defense attorney John Kelliher asked the elder Morales why, if the episode had affected his life so adversely, he had never sought medical or psychological treatment. And he pointed out that while Arturo Morales testified that he was now afraid of guns, he acknowledged he had gone on hunting excursions since the 2004 incident.
Kelliher also noted that Morales had made previous statements that his 9-year-old granddaughter started crying not because she thought Barnett would shoot her, but because she was afraid her grandfather was going to be arrested.
And the attorney hammered away at the fact that Morales, an experienced hunter with a long history in the area, was never certain as to whose land he was on.
During his opening remarks to the jury, Kelliher said only one member of the Morales party had a valid license to hunt on Oct. 30, 2004. He noted that the date marked the first day of hunting season, and that Roger Barnett has a long-established history of not allowing hunters to use his land without written permission.
Furthermore, Kelliher said Arturo Morales had had a previous encounter with Roger Barnett in which he was cited by a sheriff's deputy for hunting on Barnett's property. Therefore, the attorney said, Morales knew well before the 2004 confrontation that Barnett restricted hunting on his ranch." - The Daily Dispatch.
Where did the Times say the family were illegal immigrants?
People who trespass for hunting are the scum of the earth. And they are armed. Armed trespass is far more grave than simple trespass, and this jury was nuts for punishing a landowner brandishing a weapon when encountering armed hunters on his land.
I know that many could care less about the facts. That is why they lie.
Jurors also wrongfully convicted 2 border patrol agents for shooting dope scum in the as*.How are these jurors chosen?I would'nt be a bit surprised the jurors are illegals!
Apparently, the jury dis-agrees with you.
Where? In the article title.
