Arnold is Arnold (FR poster 'calcowgirl' mentioned in LA Times blog)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Nov. 22, 2006 | Robert Sallday

Quietly encouraged by the Schwarzenegger administration, a lot of pundits nevertheless have been pushing this idea of an Arnold Way for the Beltway. But conservatives - the ones who would actually have to change their course under the Arnold Way — aren't buying it.

CNN's Bill Schneider "informed the GOP that the way to recover from midterm losses is to imitate Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and embrace liberal policies," the liberal-media hating News Busters concluded. My favorite response to the Whalen piece came from Weekly Standard reader Calcowgirl, who simply pointed to Schwarzenegger's deeds as proof he wasn't one of them. She (I assumed Calcowgirl is a female) keeps a list of the governor's offenses from 2006:

.........

-- Signed AB 1207, Code of Fair Campaign Practices (homosexual agenda)

Absentee ballots are part of the homosexual agenda? Anyway, the real question is: How many of these would President George W. Bush support?

Nice of you to weigh in as an "expert" on California politics.

Thanks!

Some of you posters on these threads are so fake and obvious as is your supposed desire to push a conservative agenda and not just claim to while you actively support TWirPs and moderate mavericks.

We'll do it by moving to the middle is about all you offer. Priceless!

... your open support of Progressives and TWirPs has hardly had the opposite effect.

Deceit is a useful tool for your ilk herd. Lack of concern for the truth makes it so easy for such balderdash to come from your fingertips.

Make no mistake, Arnie's a RINO. The fact that he's taken some actions which conform to conservative ideals doesn't make him a conservative.

No one is arguing that. He's just light years better than Cruz Bustamante or his recent opponent.

Absentee ballots are part of the homosexual agenda?

Might have been easier to read the legislation Bob!

Existing law authorizes eligible voters to vote by absentee ballot and authorizes a county elections official to deliver an absentee ballot to the absent voter's spouse or parent.

This bill would additionally authorize delivery of an absentee ballot to the absentee voter's child, parent, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling, or a person residing in the same household as the absent voter, who is 16 years of age or older.

The author, calcowgirl, is off duty this weekend.

RESPONSE TO #1

... neither calcowgirl, nor the author of this blog mentioned all the conservative things Arnold DID do...

Had I done so, the post would have made little sense. I was responding to a post that said:

"Arnold's job, and why many of us voted for him, is to VETO the lunatic bills coming out of our Democratic-controlled legislature. I don't care what else he does. Just do that and I'm happy. "

I was simply pointing out that there were plenty of lunatic bills signed by the Governor, all of which were strongly opposed by Republican legislators and he signed them anyway. It appears that some here are happy with the Minimum Wage Hike, Global Warming Regulation, Prescription Drug Program, advancing the homosexual agenda, etc.

I think the author is using calcowgirl's list to demonstrate how out of touch conservatives are.

I'm glad to see you admit you are not a conservative. The New Majority-ites and their cult-of-personality action hero show no bounds in their relentless efforts to defeat conservatism.

But in fact he uses the Calcowgirl quote to show that conservatives don't like Arnold, because he's pushing a liberal agenda, and he's right about that.

A point completely lost on the poster of the thread.

Also, any reference to FR increases traffic and brings new Freepers. So bring it on.

Unfortunately, the author made no mention of Free Republic, referring to me only as "a Weekly Standard reader."

Calcowgirl made a career of bashing Arnold, not giving credit to him for anything, but never criticizing the leftist Democrats.

More lies from the Fair Opinion Account, I see. I did indeed praise the few good vetoes coming out of the Governor's office and criticize liberals everyday.

That doesn't sound like a conservative attitude.

Does this sound like a "conservative attitude" to you? Arnold did not move "to the center", he co-opted the democrat platform.

"Republicans to avoid becoming totally irrelevant in CA they have to move to the center", as Arnold did...
The faux-conservatives worked hard to bash Arnold to try to get real conservatives to stay home, so the Dems can get elected.

Conservatives urged voters to get to the polls to vote against the bonds, for Prop 90, and for the down-ticket candidates, as I and many others did. Conservatives were outraged by the lack of support for Conservative candidates demonstrated by our Governor (Pombo, Mountjoy, Poochigian) and by Schwarzenegger's public assault on the candidacy of Tom McClintock by telling the international press that "Tom is wrong...", and of course, Arnold's opposition for Prop 90.

The "faux-conservatives" are those who openly promote moving the Republican party leftward, voice no objection to record spending increases and the borrowing bonanza promoted by this Governor, think sustainable development is for the greater good, accept subsidizing businesses as a conservative principle, and call the unprecedented advancement of the homosexual agenda "mere crumbs," to cite just a few examples. "Faux-conservatives" are those unwilling to fight for the Republican platform, who won't expend the energy to educate the electorate and sell conservative ideals, who are instead willing to capitulate to misguided liberals in the interest of winning and try to suppress the voice of any of those who oppose them.

Thanks for posting the list, SW. I need to create a list that includes the misdeeds from 2003-2005, and update the 2006 list to include the Bondage and Public Private Partnerships.

Oh yeah, I just wanted to add that I found Calcowgirl's posts during the campaign to be very useful and think she should be thanked for posting all of them.

Thanks, Constantine. You are very welcome.

How is highlighting your very own partner-in-crime on FR getting an L.A. Times mention a "cheap shot"?

Fighting for conservatism is now a crime? Keep pushing that homosexual agenda, NJ. You have shown where your priorities are.

Who was the other candidate you were considering, I could never get calcowgirl to tell me who she was trying to get us to vote for.

I responded to your repeated badgering and name-calling time after time after time after time.

I suggest additional study in reading comprehension.

Or, encouraging other liberal netters to search for "calcowgirl", so they can join her in her DICC operations.

Some never miss an opportunity to avoid discussing issues and only stop by California threads to join in the trite and vile name-calling. At least you're consistent.

Do you think the "Arnold Way" should be pushed on the Beltway? Should George Bush now sign the Kyoto Treaty? Should Schwarzenegger and Washington be increasing spending and increasing healthcare benefits for all "residents" in California (read: illegal aliens) and the United States?

Please show me where I have supported any Democrat agenda or liberal cause? The list posted in #16 clearly shows the liberal agenda advanced by our Governor.

The faux conservatives in re CA "conservatives" have been outted. Hope they enjoy what's coming next.

I will predict that under Arnold, anything "coming next" will have very little to do with advancing conservatism, something I certainly will not enjoy. You sound pleased by the outlook; I'm not surprised.

That's because some conservatives are intelligent and savvy enough to know that we are only going to drag our country back to the right slowly through incrementalism, the same way it was pushed left.

Please name 5 things that Arnold has done to move the State of California toward the right. In fact, a veto of liberal legislation helps us hold ground but does nothing to move us toward conservatism, incrementally or otherwise. Programs like Global Warming regulation, Minimum Wage Hikes, the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, No Fishing Zones, etc. only advance liberalism under the name of "the Arnold Way."

And other conservatives such as the anti-Arnold faction are hell-bent on allowing the country to be destroyed through their "all-or-nothing" radical ideology that consistently gives us NOTHING and keeps the country going further left.

I have never advocated an "all or nothing" ideology, nor have most of the conservative posters on California threads. If you think otherwise, please provide links. Otherwise, please take your unsubstantiated slurs elsewhere.

This bill would additionally authorize delivery of an absentee ballot to the absentee voter's child, parent, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling, or a person residing in the same household as the absent voter, who is 16 years of age or older.

Or here:

2006 Equality California-Supported Legislation

SB 1654: (lead author Senator Deborah Ortiz, D-Sacramento) would clarify an LGBT absentee voter's right to authorize his or her cohabitating domestic partner to pick up an absentee ballot. This will streamline the voting process and have a positive impact on LGBT voter turnout.

The author, calcowgirl, is off duty this weekend.

I have returned after spending a wonderful weekend with friends and family, celebrating the great freedoms we have enjoyed in the United States. It is sad to see that some on this thread fail to see that those freedoms are at great risk of being taken away from our grandchildren as the socialists and fascists work to advance their agendas, joined by those interested only in "winning" through the cult-of-personality.

Everybody run back and re-read reply #50!!! Nobody has EVER said it better! EVER!!! (by the way... are the Schwartznegger swooning so-called "faux" conservatives called that French adjective because they're actually French, or what?)

I've alway been more than a little suspect of ANYONE that has to resort to French to add emphasis to their torts and retorts!!!

I have never seen anyone on FR be more concise and clear in advocating her positions than calcowgirl! It is indeed hilarious watching the silly celebrity worshippers buzzing around in circles trying to justify their positions as somehow "conservative!"

"The same "all-or-nothing" faction types in PA sabotaged solidly conservative Santorum, too, which shows you how absolutely unappeasable they really are... or what utterly fake conservatives many of them are in truth."

BINGO! No real conservative would possibly prefer a Dem over Santorum, who is quite conservative and did not deserve to lose.

Quite a few posters were so happy after the election, that they got rid of some "RINOs" by handing Congress lock, stock and barrell over to the leftist socialist Dems.
