I'm reading an astonishing number of comments on Free Republic these days by posters who have joined the ranks of the anti-American left in calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Some claim to have military experience, some claim to be patriotic Americans and some claim to be smarter than the rest.
These posters are joining the Murtha-Rangel-McDermott treason caucus. Oh, they say they love the troops, but their decision to abandon them in the field speaks otherwise.
Three years ago, the United States led an international coalition to rid the world of one of the worst regimes on the planet. Saddam Hussein was an international terrorist: He financed terrorism, he trained terrorists and he harbored terrorists. He waged war on Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Israel. He waged war on the people of Iraq, including genocidal campaigns against the Kurds in the north and the marsh Arabs in the south.
Saddam successfully subverted the Oil-for-Food program and was wearing down support for continuing the sanctions keeping him in check.
He had numerous contacts with al Qaeda over the years. He tried to assassinate a former U.S. president. He maintained research capabilities to implement nuclear, chemical and biological weapons as soon as the sanctions were lifted. There is evidence that some of these programs would have been operational within a year even with the sanctions in place.
The decision to remove Saddam and his regime as part of the Global War on Terror was correct.
Three-and-a-half years after Iraq and the world were liberated from Saddam and his terrorist regime, there are those on Free Republic who are clamoring to give up, surrender, cut and run, stab the troops in the back, betray the Iraqis, betray our allies in the GWOT, spit on the graves of our fallen heroes and join Cindy Sheehan, Medea Benjamin and Ramsey Clark in bringing about America's defeat in the GWOT.
It's only been three-and-a-half years--only six months since the freely elected government in Iraq was formed. In that time, what has been called a mini-Marshall Plan of construction and reconstruction has come to fruition. The Iraqis have held three national elections, they have held numerous local elections, fourteen out of eighteen Iraq provinces are relatively peaceful and stable.
Six months ago, when the Iraqi government was formed, the experts said the war would be taken to Baghdad because our enemies in the region could not abide the example of a free, democratic society in the Middle East. For once, the experts were right. The battle of Baghdad has been a prolonged Tet Offensive style operation of headline-grabbing attacks intended to sap the morale of Americans and Iraqis alike.
From what I've been reading on Free Republic lately, a lot of Freepers have fallen for the enemy's ploy and are howling like barking moonbats for our immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Some of that talk is couched in talk of 'we're fighting a PC war like Vietnam!' The soldiers I met in Iraq recently told Debra Argel Bastian to pass on a message to the Vietnam vets criticizing the war: With all due respect to your service, this is not Vietnam. It is not being fought like Vietnam. Please let us finish our mission.
But our enemy is playing the Vietnam ploy to great benefit. They know they can count on the American and world media to broadcast their propaganda. They work with leftist Americans to sabotage the war effort at home. They know these leftist Americans have allies in the Democratic party. They know they do not need a military victory--only political and psychological victories are needed to defeat America.
You guys are playing right in to their hands. Congratulations.
There are those who argue that murder and dictatorship is the mindset of the Middle East and that will not be changed by our actions. Funny how those who smugly denigrate the Arab peoples' capacity for freedom forget the wholesale slaughter of millions of Westerners by Westerners at the hands of Western dictatorships just a few generations past.
I hear complaints that the Iraqis aren't standing up. Yet, to use one common example, when police recruits are slaughtered in bombings, Iraqis line up the next day at the same recruiting center. The insurgency is small in number, but they are able to do enough damage on a daily basis to stretch out the time it will take to secure the whole of Iraq.
At this time of our testing, the American people are starting to go wobbly. Sadly, many Freepers are too. Our troops and their Commander-in-Chief are not, thank God. It's only been three-and-a-half years. The progress made has been phenomonal. Throw in the towel now, and you'll just have the terrorists follow us home. Everyone knows that, including you. I'm not willing to pay that price, not now, not ever, but you are.
Let me close by offering similar sentiments recently offered by two men 'in the know' on the situation in Iraq who are not giving up. First, Kurdish Regional Government Prime Minister Barzani: "When I was in the United States recently and read the negative news in the Washington Post, New York Times and in the network TV broadcasts, I even wondered if things had gotten so bad since I had left that I shouldn't return."
Next, Gen. Abizaid: "When I come to Washington, I feel despair. When I'm in Iraq with my commanders, when I talk to our soldiers, when I talk to the Iraqi leadership, they are not despairing."
BUSHHATERSWIN, IRAQBACKSTABBERS; LBACKSTABBERS;
LOSERTARIANS; SANFRANCISCOVALUES; CUTANDRUNCINOS, CINOBACKSTABBERS
Kristinn, the above key words describe the Bush Haters of America, who are willing to sacrifice millions of Iraqis and our Warriors for their misguided political idealogy.
Our warriors, who have served in Iraq, are serving in Iraq and will serve in Iraq, will be able to identify the mindsets of those who stabbed them in the back and endangered them for misdirected political idealogies.
For decades they will know who sold them out and stabbed them in their backs. They will have some very interesting one on one discussions in the years to come with the back stabbers.
Just do some reading outside of the MSM, roxy. It will help you understand what you have been confused about.
I dont disagree with that. Im surprised some so called "republicans" do. I think critics should look at a map. It's time to go into Iran and Syria as planned. Iraq's not going anywhere. It's surrounded by the very 2 nations that are causing the problems.
Yes, I do think it's close to the time of leaving. If they want to call going to Syria and Iran "cut and run" then fine with me. I call it taking care of business.
So you believe that the Armed Services Committee has absolutely zero input on this? Our elected representatives in the Senate and the House are just too ignorant to deal with such complex things as goals and objectives, while the Chief Executive makes all of these strategic and tactical plans in a total vacuum? Sorry, that just sounds delusional.
No, I said that The Commander in Chief is responsible for the plan, he has the final say.
Really? You forgot about the $25,000 checks to the families of suicide bombers?
Even the 911 comission connects Saddam with Al Qaeda.
You mean the neo-cons?
It now seems clear that any war lasting longer than 2 1/2 years is in trouble ....What part of "this aint gonna be easy" did the American people fail to hear?
You are completely ignorant of what the reasons were for going into Iraq, and you need to get some information before you indict yourself any further.
There were no changes and there were no lies.
And if you're calling the President a liar after a few months on FR, I think the owner of this forum might be interested.
It should also be noted that Iran and Syria arm, train, and suppor Hezbullah. Our government is currently reaching out to Iran.
The powerful chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Lugar on Saturday called for direct talks between Washington, Tehran and Damascus over the latest developments in the Middle East. "I am among those who advocates talks between our government, Damascus and Tehran after a certain point," Lugar said in an interview with the Berlin-based Der Tagesspiegel. The Republican senator from the US state of Indiana added that American President George W. Bush had gradually abandoned his earlier unilateral foreign policies for an increasingly multilateral approach, citing US-European cooperation on the question of Iran as well Washington's support for the six-party talks with North Korea.
Lugar has repeatedly said direct talks between Iran and the US would be "useful".

What part of Republicans cooperating with Shiite Hezbullah backers are the cult of Bush personality missing?
OK nobody wants cut and run? Well then lets see what it takes to win and see how many scream that is cruel, this violates war criminal statutes, you are as bad as the Islamics. What do I think? Take them all out. From Iraq, Iran, Yemen, every middle east Islamic nation take them all out. Do it. Are you ready? Want to know how? Wait just a second you need to realize something first.
We first need to know exactally how to fight the Islamic nations. We were told exactly how to fight the sons of Ishmael and Esau and how to deal with them. Are you ready to face that reality? I didn't write it BTW so take the battle plans up with the author. First there is the entire Book Of Joshua. Second as pointed out to me by someone else there is Numbers 31 v15-18. So what do ya think? Who is right on this the Lord GOD or GW Bush? Oh I'm waiting on the flames. But truth is truth. We are shown what fighting for less than a win at all cost brings us. It is a punishment not to them but us. This nations leaders have zero concept of win at all cost.
I'm sick and tired of reading Pom Pom post supporting Bush in Iraq when neither Bush nor congress are willing to face the real truths of war instead of spewing out some Marxist Tripe written in the 1930's and early 40's designed to bring this nations to it's very knees. That tripe being making our enemies victims instead of enemies. Cultural Marxism! Many have died for the cause since the end of WW2.
Show me the innocents of war in the Bible anyone? Yet day after day speech after speech we hear about those poor innocent people of Iraq. Who do you think in nations like Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and others allow these dictator thugs to remain in office and their clerics behind most of this carnage? The clrics LOL most protected of all because our very misguided president thinks of Islam as a religion of peace? A decieved man indeed he is. History says GW Bush is wrong. The Bible says GW Bush is wrong about Islam and Islam is not our friend.
Are you ready to go in and start taking down those nations at all cost? If not then you need to apologize to the cut & runs calling for cut and run. They see the cost of war and say No. But at least they do see a cost and what it will really take which is more than I can say for our leaders. War can not be fought except as an absolute at all cost that means no one is spared till the enemy is no more or is no longer willing to fight. Those who tell us otherwise are LIARS.
Another tid bit of information. It was the mentor of GW Bush who got us into this mess by his stupid E.O. taking covert assassination of ones such as Saddam etc off the table to start with. His name was Gerald Ford. His Secretary of Defense was Rummy. Jerry Ford set the conditions in motion for the Iranian Crisis. The fear of the leader responsible for terrorism was no more and significant attacks rose accordingly and quickly. Kinder Gentler My Eye!
Up till the Korean war every POTUS understood this truth as did most Americans. You show me who handed us our freedom on a platter? No one. We fought for it as a nation against the throne because we had a national will to win at all cost. Our nations freedom came at the cost of American blood. The price required for it's purchase. You give me one good reason why American blood should be spilled for nations who REFUSE to stand up themselves and bring their own freedom. Even in our own Civil War both sides knew and understood the cost. The Islams nations do not want freedom nor democracy because their religion prohibits such a condition. What part of that is so blasted difficult for Bush to understand? That speaks volumes as well for the clueless advising him doesn't it? That's the problems he doesn't understand. He is as much an idealist as the Flower Childs of the 60's.
I have no issue with a free Iraq but let them earn it themselves then maybe they will not be so eager to loose it. If they don't then in 10 years or less from now more Americans will die after their clerics install a new dictator from hell to rule a new nation our soldiers blood and our tax dollars built for him.
Bush has tossed aside all the lessons learned through WW2 and the cautions given by wise men who founded this nation. He has tossed aside Biblical truths of war that those founders knew and abide in. Now what makes me think that maybe this mans actions should be questioned?
I'm growing tired of screwing around with you. One more time for you slow ones, MY OPINION IS NOT A LIE. Whether that opinion is of you (MY PERCEPTION) or of some topic being discussed on FR. Sorry to break this to you, but you are not the arbitor of truth here, no far from it. You are not the arbitor of Conservatism, even further from it. DO NOT continue calling me a liar for voicing my OPINION. GET IT??? Blackbird.
And that's where the problem with communications is at the WH. That's where my criticism starts. Yes, The reasons have been constantly changing from the WH to the people. But the reason we went there was because of Saddam's connection with terrorism. If it were'nt, then China and France and NOT Iran and Syria would be next on our list.
Some of us have never wavered and are routinely called Bushbots as a result. Some of us recognize the power of the Treason Media to manipulate the People, including FReepers who should know better. Others are manipulated like Pavlov's dogs with buzzwords.
We have watched as FR became obsessed by events which were turned against the GOP or Bush by the ULTRA Right or pretenders determined to weaken this site. Zigote worshippers, Schiavonauts, Brigadeers, Turd Party freaks, isolationists, mindless reactionaries, the Are We There Yet? Crowd which believed the GOP possessed TOTAL power, the No Body is Conservative Enough caucus and those Hysterical about Illegals have been played like fiddles to weaken the GOP and demoralize the people.
Free Republic is the greatest threat to the forces of Treason which have the Nation under seige. Its destruction should be the greatest goal of the Soros types and the way it will be undermined and its influence destroyed is by forcing it as far right as possible to splite it away from the People. Some of the comments routinely posted can be nothing but the work of Leftists pretending to be the Extreme Right or fools deluded beyond help. Both make FR look like a ship of fools rathers than one of Liberty's greatest bulwarks.
They deliberately or unknowingly detract from the great work of FReepers like you whose work is greatly appreciated by many of us.
Did any of those checks go to suicide bombers blowing people up in Maine? Indiana? Didn't think so.
The 911 Commission's connection is so slight. Saddam was apparently aware of Zarqawi's presence in the country, and there were talks in the mid-90s about working together, from which nothing materialized. That's it.
I am actually very surprised that there isn't more, just by random chance.
A very smart freeper I know...read some of this thread last night...and renamed some of the posters, FLEEpers.
I won't give his/her name, in case they want to stay anonymous...but, I thought it was an apropos name...LOL
Apparently all of it. I will quote a President Bush speech I refer to when I feel like going wobbly...
This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.
Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen.
