Stop crying your heart out, Oasis singer tells British troops in Iraq

Tue Nov 21, 8:22 AM ET

Noel Gallagher of the British rock band Oasis has told soldiers fighting in Iraq to stop complaining when they get wounded.

The chief songwriter and lead guitarist said Tuesday troops loved getting involved in war-zone action until they get hurt.

In a wide-ranging rant, the fired-up 39-year-old also turned his guns on British Prime Minister Tony Blair, environmentalists, Elton John, his brother Liam -- the lead singer in the band -- and predicted his own daughter would become a "mental, axe-wielding, cyber-punk lunatic".

"Blair made an almighty cock-up going to war in Iraq," Gallagher told The Sun newspaper.

"You get a million people walking through Hyde Park -- 'don't send the troops' and all that.

"The troops want to go, all they want to do is fight! They're soldiers. They're loving it, until they get shot -- then they're claiming compensation.

"If you're bothered about getting shot -- here's a thing -- don't join the army."

The seething rocker, whose hits include "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Stop Crying Your Heart Out", blasted celebrities who "lock themselves off from humanity".

"If I run out of milk, I go to the supermarket and I queue up like everybody else. Can you imagine Elton John queuing up to buy milk?," he asked.

"These stars like Robbie Williams and Elton and all the rest of that lot -- what are they afraid of? Are they afraid somebody might actually say hello to them?"

He also slammed the growing environmentally-conscious fad sweeping Britain, insisting green campaigners were "hippies with no place in the world".

"How do you suggest we get millions of Chinese not to have a fridge? Or get millions of Americans to stop using their big, stupid cars?".

The surly Gallagher brothers are famed for their bitter sibling rivalry, and Noel put the boot into Liam once again, saying he had a "split personality".

"The problem with our relationship is that he doesn't like me. I can accept that," he said.

"I don't actively go out of my way to antagonise him. He does actively go out of his way to antagonise me.

"It's very difficult to deal with someone who thinks he's the centre of the universe one minute and and the next minute everybody's out to get him."

Oasis burst onto the music scene in 1994 with their debut album "Definitely Maybe". The follow-up, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?", became Britain's third biggest selling album of all-time.

"Stop The Clocks", their greatest hits album containing 18 tunes, was released Monday.

I think I might find it difficult to tell a feller who's just lost a leg on my behalf to quit complaining about it. But maybe that's just me...

LOL! Very good way to put it. :)

I don't know, if a soldier has become wounded in battle for defending his country, I think he is entitled to compensation for those injuries.

Man you are one hard individual.

This summer I attended the FReedom Concert in Jackson, NJ and met some of those wounded heroes. some of them double amputees, you comments get me sick to my stomach after remembering them and their sacrifice.

For any holdouts against Darwin, here is your missing link.

(Idea stolen from a page about his comparably simian brother).

Very very talented.

Very Very Stupid and A-holey.

This has been known for years. Sad that the one brother has to deal with his brother's antics all the time.

How can you disagree with this statement?

"The troops want to go, all they want to do is fight! They're soldiers. They're loving it, until they get shot -- then they're claiming compensation.

"If you're bothered about getting shot -- here's a thing -- don't join the army."

It looks like his complaint is regards to getting shot and then asking for disability compensation. I think most troops understand the risks. I don't think most complain about getting wounded. It is only right that the .gov that sent them there, then take care of the on their return.

He is making a back handed slap.

I bet he would want his disability insurance rider to pay if the fell off his musicians throne.

I too am in surprising agreement with almost everything.

Although he could be more sensitive towards wounded veterans- when you're right, you're right.

The guy's opinions on the British troops are reprehensible -but he's right on one thing (and one thing only): Britain's insane global warming fears. It's all the newspapers talk about. The Prince of Wales has decided to put his staff on bicycles in an attempt to stem the apocalypse.

I'd like to punch him in his mouth and dare him to complain about it.

Yep. And when you're done I'll run him over with my big, stupid, American-made Chevy Tahoe! What the heck, I'll only get probation anyway. Oh, wait, that's only if you live in California.

fF you don't want to get shot or shot at the Army is not the place for you. Same thing can be said for cops, if you're just there for the retirement benefits you don't belong.

It's a classic misunderstanding. You don't join the army to get shot- you join to shoot. You don't go to war to die, you go to kill.

Most people don't comprehend this, so I can't hold it too much against him.

This guy is an eh whole. I have a few of their CDs and went to see them in Atlanta about 7 years ago. They only played one song I recognized, played all stuff from their new CD, and pretty much acting like arrogant adolescents on stage. After the concert I have never listened to them again nor would I think of buying any of their products. Man, how do you bad mouth your own troops?

He's apparently not too worried about the cost and he's not riding a bike (although he's sending the Palace into fits with rumors of traveling by Tube and British Rail!)

"Wholesale" was in reference to your screen name. I'm sure with the Prince it's retail all the way!

The Brass should have turned their backs and let some of the soldiers mandatorily invite Oasis to a meeting out in a dark alley. I'm sure they could have provided an attitude adjustment to the singer.

The Brass needs a better screening process, too. Troops in a war zone don't need this kind of diatribe hurled at them.
