Four PA Arabs Caught Cutting Down Olive Trees
Arutz Sheva ^ | Nov 21, 2006 | IsraelNN.com

Posted on 11/21/2006 12:53:37 PM PST by ScaniaBoy

Four Palestinian Authority Arabs were caught by Samaria district police Tuesday evening as they were trying to cut down olive trees.

The four claimed they were working for the owner of the property, who sent them to cut down the trees. Police launched an investigation to question the owner and determine whether the four have been involved in similar incidents in the past. They were held for questioning.

Tomorrow the world media runs pictures of olive trees cut down by Israeli settlers

Oh, stop being such a realist.

I've read about olive groves in California (CA) but not in Pennsylvania.

:-)

The Albanians would do the same thing to the Serb farmer's plum trees in Kosovo in an effort to force them out.

Here is the kind of story we like to swap with each other (well, except for the outcome, I guess - they are really bad marksmen):

Former Fatah minister in PA shot by Hamas gunmen
By JPOST.COM STAFF

Palestinian sources said Tuesday night that a former Fatah-affiliated minister in the Palestinian Authority was shot and moderately wounded by Hamas gunmen.

Abu Ali Shahin is known for being a vocal opponent of Hamas and the current Hamas-led PA government.

Mucho gracias for the story. You're quite right - for all the effort these people put into wholesale slaughter you'd think they'd be better at it.

Thank you... but I was never really gone. I posted here and there. I just haven't had time to post a whole lot

FWIW, I've claimed Arutz Sheva is biased and pro-settler, just as I've claimed Ha'aretz is biased to the far left. All Israeli media... make that all media... is biased. I don't think Arutz Sheva's editors would claim otherwise.

My own bias has shifted to the right during and following the disaster of the war in Lebanon and Gaza.

Wait a second... it is not mentioned anywhere that these were "their own trees". If anything, these trees were not theirs - they claim that there was some tree owner[of unknown nature] who supposedly sent [probably didn't send] them there. So, it boils down to the nature of the owner.

I won't bet against it.

I'd bet shekels to sufganiyot that it WILL happen. Want to bet Pacifica Radio, Free Speech TV, and the BBC will be all over it?

One does not cut down olive trees over there. They're practically immortal and prized like one's family heritage.

Now that I know someone who has been hit 16x in one shooting, and is 'moderately' wounded,I know they are crappy shots!

Cutting down olive trees turns out to be harder than it looks. Victor Davis Hanson pointed that out in War And Agriculture In Ancient Greece. It's a sure way to get a rise out of the trees' owners, though, which was why they did it back then and it looks like they still are.

Today's rhetorical question:

Is there a bigger scourge on the planet than Islam?

Open to comparisons. Liberalism is the nearest competitor I think. Is there such a thing as Islamic Liberalism? That would take the cake.

Our neighbor went to Israel the summer after our daughter died in Jan. 2004. She planted an olive tree in her memory. Sure hope this did not happen wherever they had the tree planted.

It is. The looting of the greenhouses in Gaza a year or so ago really brought home the point that these people understand destruction far more than they value construction.

They wanted to take the olive trees home because they heard they were extra virgin.
