6 imams removed from flight at Twin Cities airport, questioned

MINNEAPOLIS -- Six Muslim imams on Monday were removed from a US Airways flight at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and questioned by police for several hours before being released, a leader of the group said.

The six were among passengers who boarded Flight 300, bound for Phoenix, around 6:30 p.m., airport spokesman Pat Hogan said.

A passenger initially raised concerns about the group through a note passed to a flight attendant, according to Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for US Airways. She said police were called after the captain and airport security workers asked the men to leave the plane and the men refused.

"This sounds completely and totally unjustified. One passenger's phobias should not be a reason for detention.

If there was a demonstrable problem with these particular individuals, they should have not been allowed on the plane to begin with. Apparently, there was not."

Apparently, it was more than "one passenger's phobia" as I highly doubt - in todays PC and lawyer charged atmosphere - that the flight crew would have asked to have them removed just on one persons word of them doing something. Mark my words: as more comes out about this, it will be revealed that they did more than stir just "one woman's phobia" and she alone was able to get them removed.

I work in the industry and am a big believer in the flight crew being the judge, jury and "executioner" when it comes to on-board behavior. If they don't like what you are doing, you are gone. Period.

The woman with the "phobia" was an Arabic speaker and understood what they were saying, so she probably had a bit more justification than just a "phobia."

"Imams? How does anyone know they are Imams? Half are phonies. Phony idolaters of a non existent allah"

Bump. But what's this "half" stuff you're talking about?

Shahin expressed frustration that _ despite extensive efforts by him and other Muslim leaders since even before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks _ so many Americans know so little about Islam.

Here's an idea: Next time one of your Muslim brothers blows up an airplane, bus, train, or hotel, take out a full-page add in every major newspaper in the Country and unequivically condemn the attack, without (a) trying to shift the focus away from Muslim violence (i.e., "We condemn all acts of terrorism," which is nothing more than an attempt to spread the blame to Israel, the USA, and the UK"); (b) blaming the terrorist attack on Israel and the "evil Jeeeeooooows" (i.e., "While we condemn this attack, such violence will continue as long as the United States continues to support Israeli terror against the Palestinian people"); and (c) limiting the condemnation to terror attacks on "innocent people," because Christian, Jews, and other non-Muslims are never innocent.

Only when these Imans stand-up and loudly protest evey act of Muslim violence without qualifiaction, excuses, justifications, or exceptions, will we take these people seriously.

Good to see passengers have their eyes open. Someone has to do the racial profiling

On the radio (Fox news) said they all stood up and prayed. HAS anyone ever seen Muslims standing to pray? All I ever see is people on rugs.

It almost seems that they staged this prayer-in to scare other passengers? Sure would like to get a glance at their notes from the meeting that they recently attended!

After the next hit, these imams will need an ambulance to get off a plane.

We should refuse to board a plane or even a bus with these people.

This sounds completely and totally unjustified. One passenger's phobias should not be a reason for detention.

I'd wait on that. The passenger MIGHT be paranoid, or she MIGHT have understood more than the people around her, especially if she spoke Arabic herself. Let's find out.

I too am delighted to see Americans taking note of who is on their flight. Somebody has to be looking for the terrorists instead of the weapons.

Nah, it's only the Twelvers that have the idea the last Imam is hiding in a well.

Actually, we, and the world, have had no trouble with Shi'ite Seveners since the Mongols devastated them. The Aga Khan, besides being fabulously rich, is thoroughly Westernized, and his followers are mostly doctors, lawyers and other professionals in Pakistan.

Of course, back in the day. . .those Seveners were big trouble, though mostly for other Muslims. Of course even their 'militant' wing, the Assassins, didn't manage to invent suicide terrorism, though the didn't care of their enemies killed them, and would attack a target under circumstances where they'd certainly be killed, the didn't kill themselves. That seems to be a 20th century Sunni invention.

An airplane OF ALL PLACES is not a place for Muslim rituals! GEEEEEZ!!! borrowed from blondee123

Since we have judges more than willing to pay the moose to probe our airline security, I would venture a guess this is just the beginning. I agree with another FReeper, these guys shouldn't have walked, they should have been locked away for a very long time. Refusing to leave the plane after being asked? I would get jail time. Moose standing for prayer? Doubtful, even on an airline! Moose don't stand for prayer, not even their own. The passenger was alert, I hope his or her name is never revealed, for moose doesn't like people knowing what moose is saying. Lock the next group up for 50 years and that will stop moose in moose's tracks. We are at War after all.....!?! aren't we?

I think the airlines should follow the lead of Major League Baseball and start having Bat Day.
