'Violent Sex Predator' Cary Verse Jailed In CoCo
CBS 5 SAN FRANCISCO ^ | 20 NOVEMBER 2006 | CBS 5

Posted on 11/20/2006 6:51:30 PM PST by Extremely Extreme Extremist

(CBS 5) MARTINEZ -- Four-time convicted sex offender Cary Verse was being held in the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez Monday after being stopped over the weekend with an underage boy in his car, authorities told CBS 5.

The 36-year old Verse served six years in prison and another six years in Atascadero State Hospital, where he got therapy. He was convicted of raping three teen-aged boys and a homeless man from 1988 to 1992.

Authorities told CBS 5 that a tail light on his car was out, prompting Walnut Creek police to make the 2 p.m. Saturday traffic stop during which a 14-year old boy was found in the car with Verse.

Having a juvenile with him reportedly violates the rules of Verse's conditional release from the state hospital. He was one of the first rehabilitated 'sexually violent predators' in California given a conditional release under a controversial state law.

Walnut Creek Police Lt. Tim Schultz said Verse "was taken into custody. We were directed by the corporation that oversees his supervision that they did not feel comfortable with him being released and they requested that we take him into custody."

But the father of the child who was in the car with Verse told CBS 5 he had asked Verse to give his son a ride to a local shopping mall.

The father, who is not being named so as to protect the identity of his son, knew of Verse's background. He is convinced the boy was safe, is safe, and that nothing inappropriate happened.

Upon his release in Feb. 2004, Verse was driven from four homes in the Bay Area. Attorney Anthony Ashe ultimately offered Verse the small cottage behind his gated Bay Point law office in Contra Costa County in Feb. 2005. That's where Verse's lived ever since.

Under the law authorizing his release, Verse wears a satellite tracking device on his hip, parole officers are said to make frequent unannounced visits to check on him and Verse is suppose to map out his schedules and submit written requests to leave his home for even mundane trips.

There was no immediate word from the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office about how long Verse might spend in jail or what the impact might be on his conditional release.

Was I racist in assuming Mr. Verse would be white.....

It is statistically valid assumption.

Only you know whether your motivations were racist.

Cary Verse? What a great name! Better than Francine Prose. Now that he's jailed, can I use it?

Sorry I just don't buy into those studies. If that is true then why do we have so many damn repeat offenders who commit their crimes again and again? Case in point which was a nightmare. The Groene children and family. Remember Shasta and Dylan? Joseph Edward Duncan III, 42, on suspicion of kidnapping and other charges. Duncan, from Fargo, N.D., is a violent sexual predator who has spent much of his adult life in prison.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8443793/
Heres another one...A registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday after allegedly exposing himself in front of two 15-year-old girls at a North Kansas City motel.Rexford L. Carter, 42, of Kansas City was charged in Clay County Circuit Court with second-degree sexual misconduct, which allegedly occurred Monday evening.Carter was convicted of sodomy in Clay County in 1992, authorities said. And another...August 1, 2006
A twice convicted child sex offender has been arrested in Baltimore, Maryland yesterday for the slaying of an 11-year-old boy who had been missing since last week. Detectives allege that 52-year old Melvin Jones Jr. was the last person seen with Irvin Harris, whose body was discovered on a golf course near his home on Monday. Detective Donald Moses, a police spokesman, told reporters during a press conference: "The body had suffered a level of decomposition... Everything points to the fact that he was actually killed on Friday."

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death, according to detectives from the Baltimore Police Department. Jones, a known sex offender, was arrested Monday inside a fast food restaurant. Police said they had received a tip from an anonymous informant that he was there eating. He's being charged with murder at this point, but faces other charges including kidnapping and sexual assault. http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=12013
I am sure I could go on with my google search but I just don't have the heart to. Its too depressing. I am sure your studies will say I am wrong but in my opinion I see very little hope for these sex offenders. Jail them for life in general prison population and let them get a taste of their own medicine. I have no feelings of compassion or hope for them just as they didn't for their victims. I am fine with killing them to be quite honest. And I hate Judges who let these monsters off so lightly to go out and repeat their crimes. most sex offenders do not repeat after conviction. Only about 3-6% of convicted sex offenders re-offend within three years.

Is it possible that most convicted sex offenders serve 3 years in jail? This might help them avoid re-offending within 3 years.

As a kid I remeber Capwells/Broadway plaza as more of Senior citizen and upscale shopping zone.

Things must have changed.
Oh yeah Friday night cruising strip in the old dayz.

Didn't Antioch School Dist. contract to have the thug kids from Richmond and Oakland bussed in to make more $$$$$$$$$ for the system?

It's still upscale, but every teenager in the East Bay goes there, too. ;)

I don't remember, but I think a lot of lower middle class blacks moved to Pittsburg/Bay Point and Antioch hoping to get away from the violence of Oakland and Richmond only to find that they had brought it with them in the form of their kids. That's why people from out of the area look at local real estate guides, see the relatively physically attractive homes in those areas, and wonder why they are so much cheaper than other parts of the East Bay. There's always a reason...

Somethings never change.

My adoptive parents bought a home brand new from Seeno (thugs) Homes in 1969 for 30,000 bucks with monthly payments of around $50.

I read on the CCtimes forum that Seeno is trying to build on Mt. Diablo now.

I can distinctly remember a teacher on a field trip saying it was a place degignated as a State(?) park and would stay left in it's natural state.
Guess that teacher will be doing flip/flops from the grave.

That might be the case. These studies consider "re-offending" being arrested again and prosecuted, then convicted. A high bar to get over.

My opinion is that they just get better at hiding their offenses and not getting caught, plus doing the proverbial "ordinary citizen" good works stuff to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

Why hasn't he been executed?

Because only a few (two I believe) states have the death penalty for the rape of a child (and I believe only one person has been sentenced to death under those statutes). As to the rape of the adult homeless man, the all-wise Supreme Court has declared that the rape of an adult cannot be punished by death.

So the father knew, but there's nothing in the article about whether the boy knew. Lots of questions. How did the father make Verse's acquaintance and what was their association? Why would Verse violate terms of his release and risk being reincarcerated just to give somebody a lift? Why would the boy's father risk losing custody of his son by knowingly placing him in harm's way? Why would he put Verse at risk by encouraging him to violate terms of release? Questions...

Read about Westley Allan Dodd. Despite the ongoing counseling sessions, Dodd had no intention of controlling his pedophilic urges. In fact, Dodd began to fantasize about killing his victims. He was a repeat offender. On Tuesday morning, January 5, 1993 he was hanged in Walla Walla, Washington . note He had COUNSELING!

The study doesn't count the number of crimes against children that never get reported.Do you believe in rehabilitation enough to trust 87% of these convicts with your own children?I don't know if you have any experience dealing with child predators but they can't be trusted.I've spent the last 16 years in close contact with these scumbags and I can tell you I never met one that wasn't a sneaky creep.I would rather go to work and see them locked in a cell then come home and see them living next door.

Four-time, huh? That's why I've advocated a One Strike death penalty for pedophiles. Four times is four times too many.

In Study #1 you linked, the date of the press release from the U.S. Department of Justice · Office of Justice Programs
Bureau of Justice Statistics was Sunday NOV 16th 2003. That is 3 yrs old.

Study # 2 was from the Center For Sex Offender Management. dated May 2001. 5 yrs old

Study # 3 Alaska Department of Corrections and Alaska Justice Statistical Analysis Unit. (1996). Sex Offender Treatment Program: Initial Recidivism Study—Executive Summary

Can you find some more currant links and info?

One can work with the facts as much as one wants, but no child I was related to would be anywhere near a convicted sex offender if I had anything to say about it. The father of the boy is an idiot.

My ex-roomie's brother is a repeat offender, let out twice, and each time he went back in for sex offenses. He was able to convince the authorities twice that he was rehabilitated.

" He was able to convince the authorities twice that he was rehabilitated."

Probably because they wanted to be convinced. If they kept saying, "He's not rehabilitated, don't release," pretty soon the system realizes these shrinks are an unnecessary expense and they lose their jobs. Can't have that, so they keep announcing "therapeutic success" where there is none. It doesn't seem to bother them that this causes a lot of misery and death, just as long as they can keep milking the system.
