Fox News Satire Targets Left's 'Sacred Cows'

Fox News Channel is preparing a new Saturday night comedy show tailored to its largely right-leaning audience. . . . The show would take aim at "the sacred cows of the left” that don’t get lampooned very much by other comedy shows, according to Joel Surnow, co-creator of "24” and one of the executive producers of the new Fox program.

"It’s a satirical news format that would play more to the Fox News audience than the Michael Moore channel,” he told the Hollywood reporter.

"It would tip more right as ‘The Daily Show’ tips left.”

Dennis Miller? Hell!

PJ and Charles would be perfect...prose and poetry in parody!

I'd settle for a channel that just called things relatively fair,

Sounds good to me, as long as Brit Hume is in charge.

How about doing a lampoon called the "John Kerry Komedy Special"
It could be Kerry botching one stupid joke after another.

:0)

This on the heels of the Mancow special. I liked Mancow, and liked his special, but it doesn't belong on a 24 hour news channel. Neither does this comedy being floated by us now.

It's close to the line for what I expect from a news channel, but all the cable news nets have been running more and more commentary, so why not commentary with a satirical edge? The structure of The Daily Show is a good starting point -- real events, real news footage, real unscripted interviews (albeit with smartass questions) with real newsmakers, no sketches.

And I don't think Dennis Miller is the man for the job. When he first came out in support of President Bush, he got a lot of talk show invitations, and I kept hearing the same jokes on each. I think it's a stretch for him to come up with enough material for a weekly show, let alone if they decide to take it daily, and he's not a great interviewer.

The thing about conservatives is that as a party, you can identify its principles.

Liberals, by definition, can't have any. In the same party you have Unions (pave it over) and Greens (save the whales); you have Teachers, and you have Abortionists; you have the AARP, and you have the Right-to-Die crowd; Pornstars (Bill Clinton) and Baptist Ministers (Bill Clinton)

Byrd's a Grand Kleagle, but Allen loses his Senate seat on the back of Macaca.

Like a low-bid Chinese Helicopter, the Liberals shake themselves to pieces just trying to get off the ground. Pelosi, who must invest in that rack of hers by the way, hasn't even taken over yet and has lost the ball.

There's more material in liberalism than a Thai garment sweatshop making big and tall clothes for Walmart. (a homage to Dennis Miller)

Oh I agree there's mountain ranges of
usable material..but can they get the
right people to exploit it regularly?

Remember that animated show on the
Comedy channel, with the outspoken
Republican writer, who hung out in
a bar? Not a bad show..but it seemed
to die an early death, because the
writers seemed to have dried up.

I think it will do well - Ailes doesn't start something without doing his homework first. And with Pelosi at the helm and Olbermann on the air, the writers will have no shortage of material.

given the leftist leakage of FNC lately, Ailes has been skiping his homework.

I don't want fair and balanced in the form of equal shouting time. I want unfair and unbalanced in the form of COMPLETE stories. The truth is unfair.

I think this gambit by Fox is an attempt to give writers like this a home. At least, I hope it is.

I agree with you that this show will likely be a hit. Obviously, there is plenty of material to cover and likely a lot more to come in the next two years.

Hats off to Fox News for this great idea and I hope it becomes a regular show.

Hes a Howard Stern clone who decided to hitch his wagon to the fox news channel. Not to be taken seriously as a conservative.

They aren't (funny)... they haven't been funny since 2000 when they had some good Clinton/Gore/Bush skits and then it was more the fact that the actors were so good at impersonations.

This is a great idea. The left has made fun of us through satire and comedy. They've won voters that way FOR YEARS.

I repeat: this is an excellent idea

Other comedic contributors could be the libertarians Penn Jilette and Drew Carey.
