"Why would Pat Robertson call a member of a Christian church a "non-Christian?""
Because certain evangelical groups do not consider Mormons Christians.
Has something to do with not recognizing the Trinity and/or that Jesus was fully God and fully man (or something -- I don't know enough about Mormonism to understand the dispute.)
Note, I am not saying Mormons are not Christians. I have no idea.
I am just stating that many, many Christian denominations do not consider Mormons Christians.
Whether the groups are correct or not is beside the point; they believe it to be so and will act accordingly.
Evangelical won't vote for him.
Why? Mormons don't accept the trinity, they have errant views on the nature of God etc.
He is a great guy, but to run him would give Hillary victory.
The Mormon church was created because they said the rest of the Christian world wasn't really Christian. We are satanists and going to hell in Mormon eyes.
Why should we consider them Christian?
I do not consider the teachings of the LDS to be Christian teachings. Not wanting to get into specifics on this thread, I just don't. I am a Pentecostal and very evangelical in my beliefs and style.
That being said, I do not care that Romney is or is not a Mormon any more than I would have cared that Kennedy was a Catholic or Jefferson was a Deist. If I vote for Mitt or not will have nothing to do with him being a Mormon.
Of course, a lot of people in 1980 were saying that the Christian base would not vote for Reagan because he had been divorced (I believe that Reagan was the only President we have had that had been divorced). We all know how much that prediction held true.
Okay, if Mormons can call themselves "Christians," then historic Christians can call themselves "Mormons" (and the Mormons will be fine with that).
