Because certain evangelical groups do not consider Mormons Christians.

Has something to do with not recognizing the Trinity and/or that Jesus was fully God and fully man (or something -- I don't know enough about Mormonism to understand the dispute.)

Note, I am not saying Mormons are not Christians. I have no idea.

I am just stating that many, many Christian denominations do not consider Mormons Christians.

Whether the groups are correct or not is beside the point; they believe it to be so and will act accordingly.

Their name is, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints."

Some of their beliefs and practices are odd and baffling to us non-mormons but they are practicing their interpretation of Christianity.

I do not know about other parts of the country but we have two interesting sects of Christianity here in the South. One is the "snake handlers" and the other is the "Foot washing Baptists."
They practice their Christianity in a weird way but they are clearly devout.

Lots of Mormons (most?) have the same dedication to Jesus Christ.

Because Mormons are not Christians by any stretch of the imagination. No reputable evangelical would claim otherwise. For one they deny the doctrine of the Trinity (something all cults have in common) and they deny Jesus' divinity by asserting he was a created being along with Satan, his brother. Furthermore, only up until recently (late 1970's), Mormons asserted that blacks were the offspring of Satan.

They believe that glorified Mormons will become gods much like God himself was a glorified man and will rule their own planets, which I suppose is cool if you're into Civ 4.
