Michael Richards exploded in anger as he performed at a famous L.A. comedy club last Friday, hurling racial epithets that left the crowd gasping, and TMZ has obtained exclusive video of the ugly incident.

Go, Kramer, Go! make the saintly armchair moralizers "cringe"!
All of those words have one thing in common. They diminish the speaker in the eyes of the public, or at least they should. But I remember a time when they saying;
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me."
Anyone who cringes at the sound of a word is weak. They are letting a burst of air hold power over them.
We could have some fun re-dubbing old Seinfeld eps with Kramer's new vocabulary and throwing it up on YouTube. Any volunteers?
I was just wondering what MR was up to these days...
I agree that racial epithet comedy is not funny, but I don't get my panties in a bunch about black comedians using loaded words, let them own them. It's a very understandable and reasonable double standard... Much like I can be critical of my own family but I'd loudly defend them if someone on the outside did. There are double standards in life that are perfectly OK.
I disagree. Words are very powerful. The Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, you will be accountable for every idle word you speak etc.
We can choose to not let others' words to render us powerless, but I do believe that words can be very hurtful. Especially to children.
It's actually from a Scottish word, craic, originally used by the white Scotch-Irish population to mean "talk" or "yak." Here is a quote from the web site Scottish Hillbillies and Rednecks:
"..."craic" (Crack) is a term still used in Scotland and Ireland to describe "talking", chat or conversation in a social sense ("Lets go down to the pub and have a craic"; "what's the craic"). The term, first used to describe a southerner of Ulster-Scottish background, later became a nickname for any white southerner, especially those who were uneducated."

Ahhh Bull.. I don't think anyone is defending "hate"... maybe some defending his right to defend himself if that be the case of hateful heckling... maybe some defending his right to blotch up and not be funny at all..
I went to a comedy club years ago (and only once, at a friends request)... it was so vulgar that I never went back... we are talking about a den of vulgarity so thick it physically repulsed me. People that frequent that sort of establishment expect that "smut" it seems. You claim to have never been personally called such words yourself, and I believe you are telling the truth. Unfortunately, anyone that has played an outside (any/all come) basketball game knows that just is not the norm in todays sick society. In the name of humor or whatever... the names that are spouted out are not in the church hymn whatsoever.... ever filled up you gas tank next to the jerks (usually black artist) blaring rap music at the 115 db...
Sometimes in this world what we see is very ugly... This K fellow is definately in that catagory. Unfortunately people buy into that sort of stuff. Maybe they think it is grown up instead of juvenile, maybe that is what home life is for them? I don't understand it to be honest. The other week on FR someone posted a thread of two black youth fighting while a crowd (and probable family) egged them on very vugarly. Sickening IMHO... but that is life out there unfortunately. This is a lost world for most people and Jesus's light does not shine on many a people.
Locally a few years ago, some nutso klan fellows and their families had the bright idea of having a picnic in the park dressed in full white gear. Basically a spit in the black communities face... but it developed into something even worse...
A crowd of unruley blacks gathered at the park and started vulgarly taunting them instead of letting the nuts just be nuts. One of the blacks pulled out a gun and mowed down one of the klan fellows right there in plain sight and wounded another younger family member. Were they justified in doing so? No, of course not, as much insult as the klan did, they still have a right to be nuts and freedom of speech.
Now we as a town have to endure the Klan coming to town every year to protest this stupid act and murder. What is next, shooting Freepers that dare protest equally sensitive subjects that some deem as offensive?
All in all, I don't think anyone here on FR is defending hate. I personally don't like to put myself in the position of being in such a arena of venom as comedy shows do. They gravitate to the lowest common denominator as it is. It is not politically correct to defend yourself against Blacks in society as it is...

Cool. So if it turns out in the end that Richards is, say, one eighth black, we'll owe him an apology, right?
bfl
He was profiled a couple of years ago in theWashington Post Sunday Magazine after he joined the Masons in a Scottish Rite Temple in DC. You don't have to be of Scottish heritage to join, however; I know a Jewish Mason who teaches at a big university in the DC region.
I don't see how me or anyone would owe him anything.
Odd that more "Americans" were upset with him burning and stomping on a Puerto Rican flag yet proudly support burning an United States flag as "free speech".
It had a single origin, but morphed into multiple usages. See post 148.
I'm from the south and I've never used the "N" word. I think people that use it are ignorant. What's really bad is when you know someone for a long time and then they suddenly start throwing the "N" around. I've had this happen twice in my adult life and I never looked at those people the same way again. And shied away from them.
Society has been tuned such that what Richards did is just not allowed. No matter what the reason was. Even if in this case his tirade may have fit the folks he was wailing at. And that's a big "may have"!
Starting with Richard Prior the use of the "N" word in public by "blacks" has never made any sense to me. It's almost as if some want to throw it around as much as they can until some white person spits it back out. Kind of a "dare ya" thing.
It appears to me that Richards got pissed off and that little dark part (no pun) inside of him sprung out. But what do you expect from a f'ing money grubbing jew SOB like Michael Richards? /dripping absurd sarcasm in the last line off...
Ditto. I don't care who uses the word, it's wrong. And I don't think using the lame "well, other people do it" excuses Richards for doing so.
Man...where have I been.
LOL! Nice one! Subtle...
