AMERICA'S MAYOR SEEKS LARGER EMPIRE (Giuliani as presidential candidate is scary)
NY POST ^ | November 19, 2006 | VOX POPULI (letters to the editors)

Posted on 11/19/2006 5:37:05 AM PST by Liz

****......he won't be able to get conservatives on his presidential bandwagon. He is pro-choice and favors same-sex marriage, gun control and stem-cell research. He has to be able to swing Middle America. Name redacted Bellerose

**** Who is going to run Giuliani's exploratory committee? I understand Bernie Kerik, Russell Harding, Richard Roberts and a list of assorted cons are available from Giuliani's group of yes men. Maybe his driver will be our next attorney general. That's just what our country needs - more scandals. Whitestone

**** Giuliani was a terrible mayor, and has spent all his days promoting himself. Manhattan

**** Giuliani for president? What is happening to the moral high ground of the Republicans? It sounds like they are becoming the more corrupt and morally disgusting bunch of the two parties, yet they want Giuliani to lead the party of moral conviction and family values? Memphis, Tenn.

**** Giuliani as a presidential candidate is a scary concept. Manhattan

I get more than a little tired of hearing how Republicans are such gay-haters. If true, then why do so many self-identified homosexuals (and many more unidentified) vote for us?

Perhaps because some gays agree with enough of the platform (War on Terror and Tax Cuts, for example) that they are willing to overlook the anti-gay ravings of the social conservatives.

The insistence of a bunch of cheapie liberals who call themselves Republicans in the northeast foisting a liberal candidate

Foisting nuthin'.
It's called free and fair elections.
Thats what the primaries are there for for.
Whoever Republicans elect as their candidate in the primaries, is the Republicans choice.
"Foisting"'s got nothing to do with it.
The fact that your candidate loses does not make the winning candidate any less legitimate.
And Republicans are going to elect someone who is going to slay the Hildebeast.
That's what's going to matter.

Tell that to Jim Talent, who ran out of money in the last days of his campaign. Maybe some of that loot and effort squandered on Chafee (who admitted he would have pulled a Jeffords and switched if re-elected) might have saved Talent's seat and our senate majority.

Given the new leadership at NRCC and NRSC recently, I think the GOP congresscritters figured it out already even if some FReepers haven't.

Maybe they're manipulating your mind?

If that is all we have to offer, we will lose.

F.O.H. (Fear Of Hillary) is not the Republican agenda for '08. If it is, we've already lost.

Personally, I'm far more afraid of Giuliani than Hitlery.

liberal candidate opposed to the decades-long conservative alliance within the GOP is what will give Hillary the presidency

What is going to give Hitlery the presidency is choosing someone that very few people in the country have heard off, and that is far behind Hitelry in any polls, biased as the polls may be.
Before the last elections, plenty of "true conservatives" were pushing Allen.
Well turns out Allen had a glass jaw,.
His campaign was not very well run, and for such a seasoned politician, he just made basic mistakes that he shouldn't have.
Ended up losing an elections that he should have easily won by far.
We don't want the same thing in 2008, from some unknown "true conservative"

"I don't like the positions that he took on gun control, but consider that the New York Law has a strict law that he was sworn to uphold."

Politicians from NYC, left or right, always seem a little too authoritarian for me. Of course there are lots of people who call themselves conservatives who love a strong authority figure over them.

If what we have to offer is someone who will beat Hilary Clinton, then it means we shall lose?
Your statement make any sense to you?.
Don't make no sense to me.

In the heat of debate, one tends to deemphasize the opposition's stronger points (if any)----in preference to pointing up as many negatives as possible.

I don't know why Jim Talent lost his re-election bid.
Running out of money in the last days of his campaign are as much his own fault as anyone elses.

And still this is only one senate race.
Many candidates were kicked to the curb.
It's just easier to blame everyone else when an election is lost.

I don't think Republicans are gay haters ... at least this one is not. Gays are here and they are in our party.

Frankly, I don't mind gays as long as they do not get special rights and that marriage IS between a man and a woman. Many gays support just that.

What does bother me is the extreme Right which claims they belong in the bedroom. It is THEY who will torpedo this election. It is they who will stay home if Rudy is nominated.

Go Rudy Go!

I think I understand what you're saying here.

In some ways, a social liberal Republican president is in a more lethal position to undermine and destroy social conservative values than a social liberal Democrat president is.

Enemies outside the gate we can at least see and set up defenses against. Lord deliver us from the master within our own household who holds the same views as our enemies.

"conservatives can survive a few years of Xlintonism"

It's nice that you think that conservatives can survive Clinton 2. The question is, can this country survive. We are at war with Islamists that will use WMD's as soon as they get their hands on them. Many Americans won't survive WMD attacks. The DemonRats will retreat from the fight that Bush has made and will leave us vulnerable to our enemies. All other issues are secondary to our national security. If Clinton wins in 2008 and the DemonRats control both houses this country is in big trouble.

I can easily envision Hillary getting electoral votes from states as Red as Nebraska, Wyoming and Utah.

You very well might, given that you have been pushing a pro Hitlery agenda on here from the get go.
Not surprisingly, I don't envisage such a thing happening.

Rudy is not a "cheapie liberal." While he was my mayor he was called a right-wing fascist by the true Lieberals who control NYC. He was called "Adolf Ghouliani" by the DemonRats during the "Virgin Mary covered in elephant dung painting" in the Brooklyn Museum controversy. Rudy stood against the Left and was villified for it.

A liberal Republican controlling our party is more dangerous than a mere Xlinton in the White House.

I'll take a tough, very strong on terror Repibilcan, Giuliani, in the White House any day, over a "lemme take a pass on getting hold of Bin Laden" Clinton, when the Sudan offered to hand Bin Laden over to Clinton THREE times.
Hitlery in the White House is the same as BJ Klinton in the EWhite House.
No difference there, except one is even more dangerous than the other.
And its not the male Clinton I am taking about either.

Your beliefs will enable POTUS Hillary in '08 and that is most unforgiveable in my eyes.

Given the fact that Rudy has already stated that he agrees with most of Clinton's policies, this doesn't matter in the least...unless you care more about the fortunes of the GOP than the fortunes of America.

This poster "George W. Bush" is clearly pushing a pro-Hitlery agenda here.
Just read his posts on this thread.
Funny he should take on the name of the President to do his dastardly deeds.
