AMERICA'S MAYOR SEEKS LARGER EMPIRE (Giuliani as presidential candidate is scary)
NY POST ^ | November 19, 2006 | VOX POPULI (letters to the editors)

Posted on 11/19/2006 5:37:05 AM PST by Liz

****......he won't be able to get conservatives on his presidential bandwagon. He is pro-choice and favors same-sex marriage, gun control and stem-cell research. He has to be able to swing Middle America. Name redacted Bellerose

**** Who is going to run Giuliani's exploratory committee? I understand Bernie Kerik, Russell Harding, Richard Roberts and a list of assorted cons are available from Giuliani's group of yes men. Maybe his driver will be our next attorney general. That's just what our country needs - more scandals. Whitestone

**** Giuliani was a terrible mayor, and has spent all his days promoting himself. Manhattan

**** Giuliani for president? What is happening to the moral high ground of the Republicans? It sounds like they are becoming the more corrupt and morally disgusting bunch of the two parties, yet they want Giuliani to lead the party of moral conviction and family values? Memphis, Tenn.

**** Giuliani as a presidential candidate is a scary concept. Manhattan

I see you have met the "foxhole freepers." To these good folks anyone who isn't to the right of Jesse Helms (one of my favorite people!) just isn't good enough.

Rudy is not only under attack from the far left but the far right. You have earned their derision because you dared to provide us an informed, "other side of the story."

By the way, welcome to Free Republic!

Crime is not bad in New Orleans. I've just recently come back after spending 4 weeks working down there

Crime is not as bad in New Orleans as it was before Katrina, sure.
But then huge numbers of folks have left the town, (including a lot of the criminals, who have proceeded to raise the crime rate wherever a lot of them have settled).
Despite that, only a few months back, they had to call in the National Guard AGAIN to go help keep down crime there.
So while your 4 weeks vacation there might have been nice, it doesn't really change the facts.
They don't cal in the National Guard to quell crime if crime is nice and low. Crime in New Orleans IS bad.

You have been on FR for 9 days and you are calling Freepers "paid assassin".

Not so fast there, bub. Maybe my mailbox will be filled with envelopes full of cash tomorrow. Don't screw this up for me, dude.

Okay, then, I promise to give you a cut.

We're supposed to be impressed by online self-selected polls?

Not you personally, no.
But Freeper member polls do mean something to most Freepers.
As a rule, they tend to reflect the views of most Freepers.
Plus of course there have been plenty of polls posted here which have had Giuliani besting McCain even amongst conservatives.
Let's face it, McCain is not the most popular figure amongst conservatives in this country.

Attila the Hun Republicans maybe? It is limousine liberal East Coast elitism... Two liberal New York lawyers with fancy Madison Avenue designer labels... One is a carpet bagger... One was the mayor of the United Nations capitol with a lot of photo-ops with the leftist liars in the media... whoop-dee-doo...

They court conservative GOP primary voters by bashing them... brilliant strategy... it worked so well in the '06 election...

And just the other day, there was a new poll that showed Hillary beating Rudy decisively in New York

That was just ONE poll, taken immediately AFTER the Republican "clobbering" in the November elections, at a time when Republicans were down.
Every other poll before that had Giuliani beating Hitlery with ease.
I wouldn't count my chickens yet if I were you, dude.

Jesse Helms was a great American... looked a little like Ben Franklin if you asked me...

I can think of a couple of good reasons not to support Giuliani at this time. Your laundry list of such is a yawn.

BTW, I would support him if he were our nominee and if Hillary was the opposition. But hopefully it won't come to that.

But crime fell elsewhere as well

Crime is still very high in the RATS strongholds of Detroit and New Orleans.
So clearly, crime didn't fall "everywhere as well".

Don't make the mistake of thinking I'm liberal in any way because of that comment. In case you hadn't noticed the words "gay" and "homosexuals" showed up ALOT in the original post. Almost enough to call it hysterics.

I'm from the "hate the sin, love the sinner" crowd. You know, the non-judgemental Christian types? The type of people Christ actually wanted us to be?

This does by no means imply that I believe they should be married or have special rights. I DO NOT. I also don't want their lifestyle shoved down my throat. But reading a post intending to scare me away from Giuliani because he has gay friends or hired a gay person sounds like homophobia to me. No one can name me a Republican in the past few decades that HASN'T hired a gay person.

It is limousine liberal East Coast elitism...

East coast limousine liberal elitists?

Shoot, all one has to do is look at the two limousine liberals who are now senators in Montana to point out that the problem isn't just on the east coast.

What IS illogical is letting someone's marital problems prevent them from electing a total hawk during the worst crisis our country has ever faced.

Which branch of the military did Rudy serve with? How do you know he's a "total hawk"?

I think that if I am going to elect a comander in chief to face "the worst crisis our country has ever faced,"(Calling Captain Hyperbole) I want one with proven military experience. And Rudy aint it.

But Freeper member polls do mean something to most Freepers. As a rule, they tend to reflect the views of most Freepers.

Maybe. A lot of people never vote in them. I did vote in one earlier this election season but hadn't done so in the last year. Most of the time, I never check the poll or its results. But that's just me. We (and the Kos Kids) have made these online polls such a mockery that I don't take them seriously no matter where they're hosted. But it is our original claim to fame.

Since you weren't around back then, that is how we got started. That's how we got our name (FReepers, freeping a poll).

Let's face it, McCain is not the most popular figure amongst conservatives in this country.

No. But he's fairly popular with the indies that we must have to win. And I've seen considerable softening toward him recently. I think the next poll on him here at FR will indicate it. Well, if I even notice it...

FR is not and will never be the mainstream of the Republican party and there are many factions here. If you'd been here during the pre-Bush years, you'd understand. We are, on average, more conservative. We also have much longer memories and nurse more grudges toward squishes like McStain. And we'll turn on a writer like a pack of rabid dogs (I exempt myself on that one since I always spoke out against Hackworth and Andrew Sullivan and other faux-conservatives as representing conservatives). You even see people chewing up Coulter these days.

That FR poll is lacking in depth. You wouldn't vote for Rudy over the hillabeast? I won't support him in any primary effort, but I'd sure as hell vote him over her.
