What most people really object to when they object to a free market is that it is so hard for them to shape it to their own will. The market gives people what the people want instead of what other people think they ought to want. At the bottom of many criticisms of the market economy is really lack of belief in freedom itself.

To summarize, deficits are bad--but not because they necessarily raise interest rates. They are bad because they encourage political irresponsibility. They enable our representatives in Washington to buy votes at our expense without having to vote explicitly for taxes to finance the largesse. The result is a bigger government and a poorer nation. That is why I favor a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to balance the budget and limit taxation. ---

I think they are first and foremost anti-freedom. They are anti-freedom through and through.
Anyway, Friedman was a great man. He encouraged greatness in all of us.
Yes..agreed. But the Dems certainly don't get it. Nor does most of the public.
Freedom (Political freedom) includes economic freedom.
..... and a great man with a wonderful sense of humor.
When I majored in Economics back in the mid-60's, my oh my, was it dry..... without dry wit.
;-)
There is no such thing as a free market. Even you buying hamburger meat is not free market. Buying anything that is taxed or regulated in any way cannot be free market.
Friedman's theory has never been tried in modern history nor will it. In a true free market caveman mentality will return.
>>In a true free market caveman mentality will return.
It's the other way around.
You mean in a true caveman world the free market will return?
;-)
LOL - No freedom includes the rule that you can't force others to do your bidding.

This would be an excellent thing. But I don't think members of Congress would feel constrained to obey that law.

The Dems believe in control, control, control.
