In a surprising move yesterday, Christopher Dodd (D-CT) announced that he would introduce legislation to guarantee US Constitutional Rights to enemy combatants, and would seek to repeal portions of the recently enacted Military Commissions Act.
source: "It's clear the people who perpetrated these horrendous crimes against our country and our people have no moral compass and deserve to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. But in taking away their legal rights, the rights first codified in our country's Constitution, we're taking away our own moral compass, as well."
If Dodd believes that last week's election was a mandate for this radical approach to dealing with enemy combatants, then the next two years may provide entertainment from DC not seen in a long time.

Someone needs to explain to these dumb-asses that the constitution is only supposed to apply to American Citizens. or those living here legally.

We all new this when the Democrats were elected but we had no choice. The Republicans must fight them tooth and nail and Bush must veto their crap. Then the Republicans had better come together and listen to the people. It is back to Conservatism or the country will be destroyed.

We should be in constant campaign mode from now on. I wanna see commercials in every state, about the "Democrats trying to give non-existant right to the terrorists"..They should also slam the ACLU, so people identify the ACLU for what it really is.
I remember a few years ago, when all these democrat commercials were playing in various states about the "importance of a fillibuster". "Hello, I'm Phil A. Buster.."

Right there with you re: how this confers Constitutional rights to, and infers U.S. citizenship of, terrorists; butDon't miss this part of the same story (from Dodd's website):
As important, the bill would also seek to ensure that U.S. servicemen and women are afforded the maximum protection of a strong international legal framework guaranteed by respect for such provisions as the Geneva Conventions and other international standards...
No way, Jose! Our servicemen shall be afforded maximum protection under OUR laws, NOT international laws!!!
