There's not an absolute need to install nine ASAP. Since there's no fixed number in the Constitution and we've had fewer than nine in most of the country's history, we only really need to confirm just one strong conservative.

Ex-Justice O'Connor is just using this to try and prove her hypothesis that vocal right-wing critics in the Senate and House are to blame when someone goes crazy and takes out their anger against a judge. There is no evidence to support this, of course, but "Day" never let facts get in her way on the Court, so why should her retirement be any different?
