Defining 'McCain Republicans,' Catholic Leader States: 'I know Conservatives, and John McCain is NO Conservative'

WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Jason S. Jones, president of CatholicPrecincts.org, issued the following statement in response to The Campaign for America's Future's false assertion that John McCain and those who would support his White House run are conservatives:
"At the heart of the conservative ethic is the unwavering belief in the words of our Declaration, which so eloquently define the source of all rights: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.' Furthermore, Conservatives believe that a large, bloated federal government is the enemy of man and his freedom.
"I know conservatives, and John McCain is NO conservative.
"John McCain has lacked consistency and clarity on many of our country's paramount concerns, including abortion and homosexual marriage. His political history is littered with flip-flops on his abortion stance, including during his 2000 presidential run when he said he would hold a 'family meeting' to decide his grandchild's fate should his daughter become pregnant. Now as he considers a run again in 2008, McCain is trying to move toward the right by using pro-life language. But the voter should beware. This mid-term election proved that values voters are looking for substance, not rhetoric, and John McCain lacks substance on the defense of human life.
"McCain's stance on traditional marriagedefined as a God-given institution between one man and one womanhas lacked his self-styled 'straight talk' as well. He claims to support only state-level marriage amendments because of a pseudo-conservative argument against a federal amendment. The man has a hair-trigger temper to the point of mental instability, has BIG corruption issues in his past, holds grudges indefinitely, betrays his supposed comrades (and his first wife), and works against free speech and conservative issues.
What's not to like? (if you're a Democrat)

Let me pose this discussion, What would a state marriage amendment do so devastating, that wouldn't be done with a civil union amendment? If homos are given the right to marry, how does that affect me directly? Is it a creeping process of legitimizing an abhorrent behavior?
Pastors don't have to marry them if they don't want to. I don't think they would be required by law to do so.
Is it the property rights/hospital rights issue that is the problem? Supposedly, they feel that, if on their death bed, they wan't to be able to leave their stuff to someone, or an "un-plug" feature that is not married to them. Can't a will do this?
Is it the word "marriage".
I mean, I understand what marriage is to me and my beliefs, regardless of how others live. Some people may call themselves catholic priests but get married. Well, according to the pope, you can't, if you are a priest. Just because they do it, doesn't mean the pope is going to change his mind and religious tenets.
Is this the ol', if they outlaw 50 cal weapons, then my mossberg will be next rationale?
Help me out here. (understanding of course, that I realized that the answer may be yes, yes, yes, and yes.)
Keep in mind that the track record for heterosexual marriage longevity isn't all that great to brag about. last I checked, around 40%. Maybe we need to focus how we can do to increase the chances of our successful heterosexual marriages and live by example to our children.
McCain should be dropped from the Republican Party. He's not republican, Constitutional Republican or geninue American He begs alien laws upon our shores. I don't care whether he was held in Nam (served there), he obviously suffered too much and needs to return to private life to rest - PLEASE.
If John McCain and Hillary run against each other, our country is truly dead. Neither supports US sovereignty.
Imgine that... this weasel as the leader of the Republican Party... how depressing, unless of course you are a left looking to water down (for the "progressive/diverstity" bunch here if FR) the Republican Party.
As long as we are thinking toward 2008, I think it is only fitting to revise what Senator MacaCains actions to sabotage the Republican Party in the past two years, especially as he comtemplates running for President. What this man did to his own party goes straight to the quality of his character. "With friends like this who needs enemies!" The saying goes and could not apply any better in this case.

They seem to have been in existence for almost the entire month of November.
The media has several mega tons of caca stored up on McCain that they're just waiting to dump right after he's nominated, if he's nominated. Then the Witch will walk into the White House unopposed. Your summary of the stuff that's awaiting the slime ball is dead on right. Just look at what they did to Murtha once he served their purpose.
IOW, that unconstitutional "law" of his is antithetical to the mission of FreeRepublic. To be a Freeper and yet to support John McCain is utterly incoherent.In addition, very few presidents are elected as sitting Senators - JFK, and maybe Harding or someone. And in additon to that, no one has been elected POTUS without attaining national office withing 14 years of being elected Governor or Senator. And McCain, already 20 years a senator, is older even than The Gipper was in 1978! And then there is Keating for Big Journalism to "rediscover" the instant McCain got the nomination . . .
We are in dire straits for a leader, and doubly so if McCain's name can be bruited as a serious possibility. McCain is Big Journalism's candidate for the Republican nomination - but make no mistake, not for the election.
Eight years ago we had not yet come to terms with George W. Bush as our candidate; there is still time for us to get behind a good man but I do think that whoever it is must by this time be well known already. There are excellent arguments against Jeb Bush, but he is I'm afraid the closest thing we've got to a faithful family man who is a proved vote-getter and successul governor. Mitt Romney being another possibility . . .
Basically I don't see a good candidate being mentioned; we are almost certainly going to be voting against rather than for somebody in '08. Part of me wants a brokered convention in '08. That idea is not to be sneered at; it takes a party process to winnow the choices down to where democracy in the ballot box can make a clear choice. Lincoln came "out of nowhere" to win the nomination of 1860 when there were three leading contenders thought to be ahead of him going into the convention. I favor "favorite son" candidacies at this juncture . . .
