Arctic resists warming

Arctic resists warming RESEARCHERS: New patterns of cooling ocean currents, winds suggest region is struggling to keep its balance.

By ROBERT LEE HOTZ Los Angeles Times

(Published: November 17, 2006) An international team of scientists reported Thursday that rising temperatures are steadily transforming the Arctic -- warming millions of square miles of permafrost, promoting lush greenery on previously arid tundras and steadily shrinking the annual sea ice.

Yet the researchers also found new patterns of cooling ocean currents and prevailing winds that suggested the Arctic, long considered a bellwether of global warming, may be reverting in some ways to more normal conditions not seen since the 1970s.

Taken together, these findings may be evidence, the researchers said, of the region struggling to keep its balance, as rising temperatures slowly overturn the long-established order of seasonal variations.

"This is a region that is fighting back," said lead author Jacqueline Richter-Menge, a civil engineer at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, N.H. "There are things that showed signs of going back to norms, trying to right themselves under very dire circumstances."

Local weather variations at Earth's upper latitudes create a seesaw of annual hot spots and cold sinks above the Arctic Circle that, combined with incomplete data records, can easily disguise longer regional climate trends.

weasel words....obfuscation

This whole article is an answer to the question:

What is bullsh*t?

This will dash the hopes of RATs in congress to parade some eskimos sweating in mesh tank tops under the bright lights of Henry Waxman's committee, with the intend to spread the man made global warming hoax.

Oh God! We have got to to, somehow, stop this from happening!

In this corner........."The Arctic is Fighting Back" - (Rocky 2)

Animism - The doctrine that supernatural beings (or souls) endowed with reason, intelligence and volition inhabit ordinary objects, tools, animals and natural phenomena. The human being is often regarded as on a roughly equal footing with animals, plants and natural forces.

So with 'incomplete data' they decided their 'facts' aren't wrong, the earth is 'hiding' them from everyone else.

Nutjobs.

" . . . may be reverting in some ways to more normal conditions not seen since the 1970s."

This phrase underscores one of the unstated - and erroneous - presuppositions of the global warming fanatics. Why do they take the situation 30 or 40 years ago as the NORMAL earthly climate? The climate is always changing, and it is completely arbitrary to set the situation 30 or 40 years ago as the baseline for a "normal" climate. The climate has seen extremes of heat and cold throughout its history. Who, then, can say what is normal?

"suggest region is struggling to keep its balance."

Have these folks become converts to intelligent design theory?

I vote for anthromorphism AS in -- Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and qualities to non-human beings, objects, natural, or supernatural phenomena. A form of personification (applying human or animal qualities to inanimate objects), anthropomorphism is similar to prosopopoeia (adopting the persona of another person). Animals, the forces of nature, and unseen or unknown authors of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphosis. The term comes from two Greek words, άνθρωπος (anthrōpos), meaning "human", and μορφή (morphē), meaning "shape" or "form." The suffix '-ism' originates from the morpheme '-isma' in the Greek language. All that college 'education' and this is what we get, RAH is spinning in his grave.

"Have these folks become converts to intelligent design theory?"

I didn't even want to go there, as I don't have time, but the parallel with intelligent design theory is here, as it is with "organic food" - which requires a belief in intelligent design, even though most people who embrace organic food probably don't realize it.

Under Darwinism, plants and animals adapt so as to insure their survival. One means of that adaption is to make it unlikely other creatures will eat you.

Yet if we believe that the most perfect food for humans is "natural" food, then the "natural" food's ambition must be to cater to humans, which is not consistent with Darwinism. Either that, or the reason that the "natural" food is the best for humans is that God made it that way.

It will not do to say that humans adapted to the food that pre-existed, becuase that would not explain how rhubarb, for example, has edible stalks and poisoned leaves, or how some mushrooms are edible and others are deadly. No, Man survived for eons eating natural food because that is all that was on offer.

There is a counter argument to my "natural food" theory which is sort of consistent with Darwinism, that the food makes itself palatable to humans so that humans will grow lots of it, therefore perpetuating the food's existence, but that would have to be some very shrewd and clever food.

Man is not the one who will destroy the earth. The one who made it will.

The NOAA has already reported that the oceans have been cooling for the last 10 years.

Note the Gaia overtone, as though the Earth were a pagan mother goddess trying to "fight back". That's a little sick to me.

Last week we had above average temps. This week we have below average temps. Sounds like the averages have averaged themselves out.

The Arctic "struggles" with adjusting "it's" temperatures ?

now here is a perfect example of environMENTALism.

To be imperically precise, the author is obviously predjudiced by flawed scientific emotional extrapolation with an anthropomorphic model of global temperature analysis...

in laymens terms....an environmental kook or "tree hugger"

lmao, mother nature (who's obviously liberal) is taking a stand against SUV driving Republicans but alas, if we don't act now, all is lost. We must get with the program, buy a hybrid car; but flying around the globe in a private jet (like to UN meetings on global warming) is fine. Mother nature makes allowances for Al Gore and Hollywood.

Some of the best poets--Wordsworth, Coleridge, Milton--have mentioned that if they put consciousness into inanimate objects when they were learning how poetry is done they would receive a severe discipline from their writing teacher.

It used to be "the sky is falling." Now its "the climate is changing, the climate is changing."

Or, "the sea level is rising, the sea level is rising!"
