DeLay's temporary replacement drives off staff on first day
KRGVTV ^ | November 16, 2006

HOUSTON (AP) - Caretaker Congresswoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs didn't take long to make an impression in Washington -- and it wasn't a good one.

Sekula-Gibbs was elected to serve out the last seven weeks of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's term.

But she somehow prompted nearly the entire staff of the 22nd Congressional District office to walk out on her.

Seven employees, who were hired under DeLay's time in office, walked out Tuesday. A former DeLay spokesman complained that the new congresswoman had treated them "terribly."

Sekula-Gibbs has raised a few eyebrows on Capitol Hill in her first three days in office. First, she expressed surprise and disappointment that neither President Bush nor Vice President Dick Cheney stopped by to visit during her office's "open house" Tuesday.

She's also prompted chuckles in the media by telling reporters she looked forward to helping resolve such thorny issues as tax cuts, immigration reform and the Iraq war -- all in less than two weeks of a lame-duck Congress.

The aides' departure left her with a Washington staff of two former Houston City Council aides, an intern on loan from North Texas Congressman Michael Burgess, and a congressional aide.

I think the "hyphen" is a good name for her.

She is there in between, and not worth much.

At least we have over a year to find a good candidate to run in that district.

Sounds like a bleached version of Sheila Jackson-Lee.

Usual actions of an hyphenated last name person.

"Never elect a hymen with a hyphen."

I make it my policy to avoid any association with women with hyphenated names. I have yet to meet one who isn't a biotch.

But it never says what she did to them. Treated them 'terribly'? What does that mean? This is a hit job.

I would suggest Robert Talton, he is a state rep in her district. He is well known and had an iron clad conservative record.

This was an extremely unfair election in TX-22. If it had been Sekula-Gibbs vs. Lampson, she would have won.

Shelley Sekula-Gibbs' capitol staff quits

07:56 AM CST on Thursday, November 16, 2006

From 11 News staff reports

Congresswoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs says her capitol office is in transition, but her staff says it’s in chaos.

The entire staff, leftovers from Tom DeLay’s administration, walked off the job en masse and quit.

They said they couldn’t work for the congresswoman because she’s too mean.

One said you’d have to promise a congressional medal to anyone willing to work for her.

Sekula-Gibbs said that’s nonsense, but acknowledged she was planning to fire the staff members anyway.

"This is a hit job."

Seven employees walk out the first week?
She expected the President and Vice President to come to a house fill-in's open house?

Yeah, definate hit job, but the one who orchestrated it is none other than Shelley Sekula-Gibbs.

Is this the best we can put forward?
