A new economic study, released by the National Biodiesel Board, says that the growing biodiesel industry will add $24 billion to the U.S. economy by 2015.
The figure assumes that the biodiesel industry will grow to produce 650 million gallons annually. If this growth holds, the study says biodiesel will create 39,102 new jobs.
However ambitious the numbers, the study seems right to assume that the biodiesel industry will continue to grow. American Ag Fuels, one company in the process of building a new plant, is expanding production from 2 million to 5 million.
"We decided to expand because frankly we've had trouble keeping up with demand," says American Ag Fuels President Steve Lankenau.
The study also has farmer-level soybean prices climbing 10% within 10 years, if nearly 500 million gallons of biodiesel comes from soybean oil. The study says that tax revenues from biodiesel production will pay off the industry's federal tax incentives.

There seemsto be more future in this, than the dozens of corn to ethanol plants under consideration here in Indiana.

The title Biodiesel Board Says Industry Will Add $24 Billion to Economy is a little misleading. It is not a new sector, merely shifting the money from going to Big Oil and overseas sourses, for th most part. It's not all perfect for me, as I own 'Big Oil" stocks. I guess I should shift some to biodiesel startups.

I'm sure some of it is, and it is a very optimistic outlook. Who knows? It may actually ADD some money to the economy, by not sending it to OPEC.............

"Who knows?"The accountants that compiled these figures to obtain the dazzling number used as propaganda should. There's the tax money part of the redistribution, which is covers a direct cost of establishing the redistribution of resources within, or between industries. The value of natural resources and overhead diverted from foreign sources should be given. I think this is hype to overshadow the direct costs of establishing the redistribution, which is worth much less in terms of real economic increase in the first place.

Think TRS 80, think Dell
Think startup? think Exxon
Bio Diesel is 95% diesel. The biggies will buy the veggie producers and do their own blending.
