Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) told a group of Democratic moderates on Tuesday that an ethics and lobbying reform bill being pushed by party leaders was "total crap," but said that he would work to enact the legislation because Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) supports it.
Murtha and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) are locked in a battle for the House Majority Leader post, and both men made presentations for to the Blue Dog Coalition on Tuesday in a bid for their votes.
"Even though I think it's total crap, I'll vote for it and pass it because that's what Nancy wants," Murtha told the Blue Dogs, according to three sources who were at the meeting...

Ya gotta wonder what the folks who were so foolish as to vote for this clown are now thinking. Probably that Murtha is now in a position to bring in more pork than ever. I don't know why else they would have voted for him.

Name that source.
Not that I doubt this for a moment but it reminds me of the nameless sources behind the fabricated Bush quote about the Constitution.

It would almost be a full time job reporting the nick knacks that constituents send in daily. Have you ever sent your congressman a gift? How many consituents send their congressman gifts? Honestly.

Murtha's role in the culture of corruption also implicates Pelosi herself. Roll Call reported last year that Murtha "reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco." Pelosi's nephew, Laurence Pelosi, was an executive of the company that owned the rights to the land. Roll Call also reported that Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of his fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski.

If it's ethics it's legal and if the law is total crap Murtha ought to take a look where the laws come from.

I love when Mark Levin refers to Murtha as 'lardass.'
Okay, it's not nice, but it is funny....and TRUE!

Murtha is a guy from the B&W TV era, so Twilight Zone is where it's at. The guy is Ralph Cramden on steroids ... and I would love to see his service records ... and the ABSCAM films.
Pelosi and this guy? He must remind her a bit of her old man, Big Joe Dallesandro, boss of Baltimore. But qwhile he was colorful indeed, he did have a brain. Murtha, I ain't so sure.
How is it that Traficant is in jail, and this guy is loose?

The Dems are showing the Republicans how to do corruption right--don't gradually become corrupt, START that way, so no one will notice any change.

With that, Murtha just threw the election to Hoyer.
Pity. He'd have been a 24/7 walking talking commercial for a republican takeover in '08. Democrats' success depends on ability to conceal their true selves and true agenda and they know it. The choice between Hoyer and Murtha is no longer one of direction for their party, it's now one of survival.

Michael O'Hara: "Once, off the hump of Brazil I saw the ocean so darkened with blood it was black and the sun fainting away over the lip of the sky. We'd put in at Fortaleza, and a few of us had lines out for a bit of idle fishing. It was me had the first strike. A shark it was. Then there was another, and another shark again, 'till all about, the sea was made of sharks and more sharks still, and no water at all. My shark had torn himself from the hook, and the scent, or maybe the stain it was, and him bleeding his life away drove the rest of them mad. Then the beasts to to eating each other. In their frenzy, they ate at themselves. You could feel the lust of murder like a wind stinging your eyes, and you could smell the death, reeking up out of the sea. I never saw anything worse... until this little picnic tonight. And you know, there wasn't one of them sharks in the whole crazy pack that survived."
from the movie "Lady from Shanghai" (how appropriate)
