If it's Mitch McConnell we are screwed. If you were interviewing anyone as a potential hire and they came in with as ineffective a track record as Mitch McConnell had as Senate Whip you would not let him past the lobby. He demonstrated over and over again that he was perfectly OK with GOP senators operating to their own self serving agendas. There was never a price to pay for opposing the leadership, the president or the polls. NO body ever had committee membership yanked, office space and staff budgets squeezed, photo ops and junkets canceled for abhorrent behavior. If this is the best we have got its going to be another 40 years until the party regains control.

This about does it for me.

I'm speechless, Howlin. The left must be thrilled though, they get a lot of mileage out of using Lott as a face of the GOP. Now normally I wouldn't care about such things but with Lott it's like a double loss since we get so little from him.

Well he has at least tried to put the pressure on Kofi and the UN - I have to say, he's a bit of a Rino for my taste but this is Minnesota.

All we've proven by putting him back in the leadership is that we don't want to accomplish anything in the next two years.

Well, there is one thing they do want to accomplish, and I believe this entire election cycle was geared around that thing.

Those numbnuts in congress will soon learn that the President had our full support .. Congress didn't

These numbnuts in Congress didn't lose because of the President .. they lost because they don't know how to pick up a bleeping hint from all the phone calls and emails we sent them

"Weak people cannot rule, they always lose."

Witness, the last 2 years of weak GOP leadership, only to be followed with more weenies like Lott.
This is a fiasco.

"If this is the best we have got its going to be another 40 years until the party regains control"

Sadly, it will take less than 10 years for the Hispanics and the United nations to take over any semblance of America that is left. I'm on board with a any 3rd party at this point. The GOP has made it clear they have no use for the conservative base any longer.

You may be right, but Base Politics worked up until 2005. What happened in 2005 was the Gang of 14 which demoralized the folks who worked so hard to elect Bush and the Congressional Majority. This group of RINO's essentially attempted to exercise a veto over any Judicial appointment and the folks who have given their lives to defeat Roe were demoralized.

It took the uproar about the Harriet Miers nomination to get folks on the right track but this was at the cost of 10% of the Presidents popularity taken right out of the Base. (translated to 20% of the base checked out.. never to come back)

George Soros is the other engineer of "Base" politics. He has been quietly funding the most radical of the Left to provide a nemesis for the Right. He does his thing by causing a Hegelian divide so that he can bring a coalition of "moderate populists" to power who are beholding to him. Soros has been on this scheme to manipulate the US ever since his name popped up on our national political screen.

Its a Amazing what a billion dollars can do in the US political system. Cheap for the results.

Exactly! Whatever happened with that? Weeks and months of time and money have gone down the fox hole with the Oil for Palaces scandal, Joe/Valerie BS, Leak Gate and the list goes on, but absolutely NOTHING came of any of it.

I haven't followed every word on this thread by any means, but calling jveritas a political hack is ridiculous. He has done more for this country by translating Saddam's documents than 9/10ths of the freepers on any given thread.

I respect and appreciate the translations that jveritas has produced. But with regard to his political analysis, I stand by my comments.

What? You mean the immigration proposal? If that's the only thing they get done in the next two years...there will probably be a lot of people leaving the Republican party.

I have no clue what these people think anymore. They obviously are not paying attention to flyover country...their constituents or Freepers...

Sometimes I wonder whose side the Naysayers are on. Rather than whine, write Trent and let him know what you expect him to do. Instead we act like a bunch of whiney cry babies when someone does something we don't like, vent on a forum, and do nothing else. We're DOOMED, I TELL YOU, WE'RE DOOMED! Only hunts so long.

You're spot on! It's hard not to feel a bit defeated with the lack of leadership in D.C. and the media manipulating the news.

It's good to see the tall spineless Frist depart. Lott has a little more testosterone and hopefully his hiatus and post Katrina trauma of the Gulf Coast (including Lotts home) wii have hardened him and made him a bit wiser. Plus he is not #1.....sort of like an experienced backup quarterback. Jon Kyle, John Thune and newer conservative youngbloods need promotion.

I agree with you. I think Lott will do a fine job. He knows Congress and his new job will be to gauge the number of votes a bill might have. The GOP is going to need a little depth and experience to do this job well.
