The videotape is grainy, dark and devastating. The congressman and the FBI undercover agents -- the congressman thinks they represent an Arab sheik willing to pay $50,000 to get immigration papers -- are talking business in the living room of a secretly wired Washington townhouse.
Two other congressmen in on the deal "do expect to be taken care of," the lawmaker says. But for the time being -- and he says repeatedly that he might change his mind and take money down the road -- he'd rather trade his help for investment in his district, maybe a hefty deposit in the bank of a political supporter who's done him favors.
"I'm not interested -- at this point," he says of the dangled bribe. "You know, we do business for a while, maybe I'll be interested, maybe I won't, you know." Indeed, he acknowledges, even though he needs to be careful -- "I expect to be in the [expletive] leadership of the House," he notes -- the money's awfully tempting. "It's hard for me to say, just the hell with it...."

Now, they are shocked to discover a corrupt, venal and self-serving man is about to be the House Majority Leader.
Their partisan juices and desire to the Bush Administration produced the "Murtha Syndrome" of corruption and venality. Now we have to live with it, but perhaps not for as long as the Washington Post would wish.
That the Post is running this should tell you that Murtha is not going to win this. If he does then Pelosi has already stepped in a huge pile of dog crap and she hasn't even been sworn in yet!!!
well lets hope that the Dems do as good a job of eating their own, as our hopeless flops, the Repubes did.
It appears that the WaPo has put itself in the position of the decider...who will be in and who will not. Can an organization remain drunk on power from the impeachment of a president forever, I wonder.

There is always hope for the Washington Post. Maybe Woodward will find someone to rat out a Republican because they were passed over for higher office. Mark Feldt is a long lived example of ethical journalism that was concealed. But Murtha, well, he is hard to conceal.
What a laugh that 60% of voters in exit polls said their main concern was "corruption"...so they voted for known Democrat crooks! Where was the cheerleading msm before the elections? Beating up on Republicans for minor flubs that they blew out of all proportion. The msm needs to be held accountable for their arrogant bias.
Hoyer is not for cut and run. The Post probably sees that the early withdrawal strategy from Iraq is not a winning one for the Dems.
The Post is frantically trying to help the Dems from slitting their own throats by electing cut and run Murtha.
pelosi said she was going to 'drain the swamp' ..........guess she only means REPUBLICANS because she is a dirty as some of the GOP she's screaming about...as is murtha and harry reid. murtha was given immunity for testifying against other guilty parties, it make him no less guilty of the crime.
And who said that having the Dems in power wasn't going to be fun to watch. (just kidding of course, but between the NYT's article this AM against "cut and run" and this WaPo article on Murtha, I think I'm in Bizarro World.)

From a gamesmanship perspective, the BEST course of action Nancy could take (for us) is to make sure Murtha get's the job. THAT would be a gift that keeps on giving for us.

The way I look at it the MSM (NYT, WaPo, etc) carved up a series of dead liberal ideas, re-stitched them together and enabled life with the electricity of Bush hatred. Now they have a political Frankenstein Monster they must either tame or kill.
They richly deserve Murtha. They richly deserve all those generals who wanted Rumsfeld removed and now want more troops and a longer war. All of this they have obtained the old fashioned way--they earned it.
Great sentence! I wonder when the hit pieces on Pelosi start appearing because the DBM cannot, under any circumstances, permit Ms. America from upstaging Madame DeFarge.
