Scottsdale Congressman J.D. Hayworth late Tuesday conceded defeat to former Tempe mayor Harry Mitchell in their contentious Arizona congressional contest.
Mitchell, a Democrat, led Hayworth on election night but the Republican refused to concede until more early and provisional ballots were counted.
Hayworth said in a statement Tuesday that it appeared he would not overtake Mitchell for the U.S. House seat representing Tempe, Scottsdale and Ahwatukee.
The Arizona contest was an especially negative and bitter one, centering around ethics accusations, border security and the Iraq war.
Mitchell's victory in a Republican-oriented suburban district was part of national tide for Democrats and the seat is expected be hotly contested in 2008.
Hayworth, a former sports broadcaster, could return to the media as a political pundit or talk show host
"Another border zealot bites the dust" is certainly a strange way to express your disappointment.
I know positively that the repubs were responsible for Randy Graf not winning. What they did to him shouldn't have been done to a dog. And come to think of it,it wouldn't have been done to a dog,too many PETA folks out here.
You're still wrong, Karnak.
I am not glad that Border Blowhards give the Republican Party a bad name.
The Buchanan/Tancredo wing only help their own bank accounts and democrats.
Quit being a tool.
So, quit posting to me. Talk about unconvincing.
It is isn't it.
But totally within character.

"It's reality;deal with it"
Amen, and preach it over and over. Unfortunately, national sovereignty means nothing to those who would be kings--except a larger kingdom.
bump to the top—
I’m on a personal campaign to get FReepers to revisit the issue of “immigration enforcement is a losing issue” canard that we had to endure after the defeats in 06.
I’m suggesting that some of these defeats were engineered by the Bush-controlled RNC for the purpose of advancing Bush’s Amnesty Legacy.
To be frank, I believe that not only have we been sold out as conservatives, but sold out as Republicans.
Here’s the strategy—field a pro-Amnesty primary contender to drain the Repub of funds, then refuse him any help from the RNC if he makes it to the general election. A Democrat is elected, and the president has a “Congress he can work with.”
We really, really need a conservative voice on the RNC.
