The announcement by McCain, who has put together campaign organizations in many of the states with early nominating contests, was widely expected. The intentions of Giuliani, who has been less active in early organizing, had been less clear.

Giuliani's campaign team said the committee was simply an opening move designed to keep his options open, with a final decision still to come.

"This filing affords him the opportunity to raise money and put together an organization to assist him in making his decision," Giuliani adviser Anthony Carbonetti said.

I had a "That's him?" reaction. It sounded like he'd swallowed a badger at first, then he was cognitive dissonance in motion.

Hm... Well, "my" party just put a pro-gun Senator in the Capitol. As to their stand on immigration, I can't abide it but that doesn't mean I don't think some semblance of balance (legislative vs. executive) is a bad thing.

Guliani would win in a national election if he survived the primaries. He is too liberal on social issues. Supporting gay marriage and abortion on demand makes him unpalatable to a lot of people not just the religious right. I am a moderately religious Hindu and both gay marriage and abortion are abhorrent to me and not because of my religion. Marriage is a building block of society and altering that definition leads to a road which ends in Scandinavia and we don't to be like them. Killing unborn babies is also murder and any compassionate person with a would would think that.

That being said, if Guliani does survive the primary I will vote for him because Hillary is liberal in every sense. On national security and crime issues, Rudy is very strong, on fiscal issues I don't know enough about him.

The only problem I have with Guiliani is that he's pro-choice. However, if he seeks the GOP nomination, I think he'll become pro-life as that is the only way he'll get it.

Don't you think that a person can be pro-life or pro-choice without especially promoting an "agenda"? Look at how many pro-life Democrats there are... Their stance, however, is that they have personal pro-life beliefs and will not try to push the issue one way or the other legislatively.

You do realise that the presence of Webb and other Democrats makes it look like America doesn't want to fight the War on Terror any longer. You do also realise that this has given heart to America's enemies.

This is what is being portrayed here. Blair and the other British politicians and people who have stood with America are having to backtrack because now it looks like you're not so sure.

This election's results were a disgrace. Iran and Syria are laughing their arses off.

Oh? Will they allow Roe versus Wade to be overturned and for the matter to be decided by the states (rather like gay marriage) as the Constitution provides?
