Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., won a leadership post Tuesday as Senate Democrats organized their new majority following last week's elections.
Murray, who is in her third term, was named secretary of the Democratic caucus, replacing Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., who is stepping down to lead the Senate Democratic Steering Committee. The secretary's job is the third-ranking post in the Senate hierarchy, behind Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
"It is tremendous honor to join this leadership team," Murray said at a Capitol news conference. She pledged to work to help young people go to college, make prescription drugs more affordable under Medicare and work for services for veterans, especially those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Our country is once again strong and we are at your back," Murray said, referring to veterans.
When Congress convenes in January, Murray also is expected to head an Appropriations subcommittee controlling billions of dollars in transportation spending, and move up to a senior post on the Veterans Affairs Committee

Between Patty "Usama builds daycare centers" Murray and Dick "Our soldiers run Gitmo" Al Queda has to be declared the big winner from last Tuesday.

That Patty "bin laden did a lot of good things, like build day care centers" Murray is named to this position is certainly no surprise.
Gawdawful news. Rewarding ignorance not to mention sanctioning the worst wardrobe on the hill. Nordstrom, that fine Seattle store, should throw millions to campaign against her next election...she makes Washington seem like a dowdy unkempt place.

Congress is ruled by mental midgets, so it is quite the honor to beat them all out for this award. As a Washingtonian, I must say she has earned this prestigious distinction.

She might have some serious competition with the senator-elects from Minnesota and Missouri. That is might as in I might have bought the winning Powerball ticket for Wednesday night.
It's just possible the Dems are working toward that 'permanent Republican majority' we all heard about a few years ago.
