President Rudy Giuliani?
Forbes ^ | 11/14/2006 | Nathan Vardi

Posted on 11/14/2006 11:02:49 AM PST by Dark Skies

Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bush’s highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.

Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

Defeating sin cannot be done legislatively. It must be done by spreading the word that sin kills the soul and the spirit.

###

You're right about that, but the government has the duty to protect those who can't protect themselves. That's why we have laws against battery, other types of killing, etc.

You can't effectively legislate against sin that only hurts the sinner. You can and should legislate against sin that hurts someone else too.

Excuse my language, but let me say this: I am a Mormon and I live in Oklahoma. I have never heard that Earnest Istook was Mormon until he started to run and I only heard it from the Evangelical types! The other state representative you mentioned I have never heard of either. Kinda of blows up your conspiracy theory? Doesn't?

I love J.C. Watts, but to tell the truth, whenever I heard him speak it sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles. I always had to look at the TV and see if he was drunk. I don't even know if he actually drinks, it was just always my first impression of him. And speaking of moral fortitude, wasn't there questions surround illegitimate children with him?

GWB was Reagan's VP for two terms only the braindead did not believe he was the likely successor.

Bill Clinton was nominated not expecting to win that time.

Ronald Reagan was obviously going to run as soon as the 1976 results were announced. Only those not paying attention were shocked at his winning.

Jimmy Carter was given lots of publicity by 1974 so all your examples are not particularly relevant.

Until "conservatives" rally behind one man they will have little impact on the nomination. Illinois is a perfect example, rather than nominate one conservative candidate for governor two or three ran ensuring the victory of a left-moderate.

This will happen in the PrimarIES. There is no PrimarY. Fifty primaries with greatly varying electorates are going to be held and Rudy has a strong chance to win at least half of them. I do not claim that there will even be a clear cut winner going into the convention but it appears to me that he will own the lion's share of the delegates when it starts.

No candidate acceptable to the "conservatives" attacking Guiliani will even get close to getting the nomination and many not win any primaries.

I would certainly vote for Romney before any RAT but think he is a real long shot and unlikely to win many primaries.

Dear Dark Skies,

I'm not really interested in debating with you whether or not abortion should be legal.

For those of us who are ACTUALLY pro-life, we don't accept it when people describe themselves as "pro-life," but are adamantly opposed to protecting the lives of unborn children in law, as does Mr. Giuliani.

Mr. Giuliani is in favor of legal abortion on demand. It may not be the choice he would make for himself, but he insists that it is a woman's RIGHT to buy the murder of her baby.

He is even in favor of maintaining the legality of partial birth abortion, which is really nothing other than infanticide.

He also insists that poor women have such a right to buy the murder of their children that the rest of us must be obligated to pay for them through our tax dollars.

Mr. Giuliani is a pro-abort.

I will not ever vote for the scumbag.

Neither will millions of ACTUAL pro-lifers and social conservatives.

but the government has the duty to protect those who can't protect themselves.

And you are right about that. But unfortunately, since sex is so primal (and leads to pregnancy), we have to change society and its view of sex to eliminate promiscuity.

I think abortion is horrible and is a huge crime. But making it a illegal will not stop it. Humans are adept at bending reality to fit their personal needs and wants.

On the other hand, let me say that I am a Rudy supporter because I believe the most important issue facing the U.S. and the world today is islam. Furthermore, having watched how Rudy cleaned up NYC and dealt with the mob and Arafat and that insulting Saudi prince, I believe Rudy is the man for the job.

After we kick islam into a tidy pile, we need to focus on restoring this country to the values on which it was founded.

My current favorite is Haley Barbour. If Santorum had won he would have led my list with Allen a possible. It should be a well known strong conservative if the nominee is Guiliani.

But that kind of choice is one for the smoke filled rooms at the convention.

Like I said. I'm not about to toss my conservatives principles away just because you've lost your mind. I support the Constitution, and the only politicos who respect the Constitution these days, are conservatives.

The challenges facing the nation today are numerous but not limited to the WOT. If we were fighting the WOT to destroy our enemy like we did in WWII, that would be a different situation. Fact is, currently we aren't fighting to win the battle for Iraq. We're waiting patiently for the Iraqi`s to get up to speed, and in the process more American troops are dying. We can't have our military personnel being unknowingly killed by IED`s and RPG`s forever.

In last Tuesday elections the American people said they want a change of direction in Iraq. The Baker-Hamilton commission will be advising the Prez very soon. I think they will suggest implimenting serious tactical adjustments.

Also last Tuesday, conservatives rejected Bush`s liberal domestic policy agenda. Conservatives said they want less federal spending, a halt to government expansion, limits on welfare state bureaucracy and passage of enforcement only immigration reform. Areas where Bush has failed to govern like a conservative. If you think Giuliani is going to govern as a conservative, your nuts.

Mitt Romney seems to be the dark horse here, unless Brownback gets in and challenges him for the same voters.

McCain--base hates. Guiliani--too liberal. Newt--Loose Zipper--Allen--Macacaed his way out of seat.Frist--Lost the Senate. Duncan Hunter? Come on. Mitt Romney seems to be the only one left. Perhaps another governor will jump in to make it interesting. Perdue in Georgia? Dare I say Jeb 2008?

Oh, and it is an Obama fantasy to push Steele for such a post this early. He is a fine man but needs more victories and seasoning beyond a Lt. Governorship.

Dear Dark Skies,

"But making it a illegal will not stop it."

We have laws against other forms of murder, yet folks still commit other forms of murder. That's hardly a reason to legalize them.

We have laws against bank robbery, yet we have tens of thousands of them annually. Hardly a reason to get rid of the law.

The fact is, before abortion was generally legal, there were about 100,000 abortions per year in the US. After Roe, that number quickly rose to around 1.5 million per year, before stabilizing to around 1.2 million murders per year.

Will some women still buy the murder of their children once abortion on demand is illegal again? Certainly! But many fewer will do so, because of the force of law, and millions of babies will not be murdered as a result.

If we are going to fight fire with fire, then Rudy is a good choice to run against MRs Clinton. I think he is machalevlian enough to cut deals with
conservatives. Maybe a pro-life running mate, or a promise to put up pro-life judges who have the view of letting the states decide. Plus he is the only guy around who has ever RUN a government, and run it well. He probably will be loyal to the military as he was loyal to the cops.

The old Catholic vs. Protestant issue used to be a very serious one in the South. In 1928, the Presidential candidacy of Alfred Smith, a Catholic, caused the entire Upper South, Texas, and Oklahoma, to break with their post-Civil War Democratic tradition and vote for Herbert Hoover. However, that attitude has changed. As I recall, Governor Frank Keating, Oklahoma's governor from 1995 to 2003, was a Catholic. In recent years, other Catholics have held statewide offices in Southern states, including Jeremiah Denton, who was the U.S. Senator from Alabama, and Jeb Bush, the current Governor of Florida.

Granted, Mormonism is further theologically from Protestant theology than Catholicism is. Mormons are also far more aggressive in proselytizing than are Catholics, which does not help their relations with evangelicals. However, the cultural standards promoted by the LDS Church entirely comport with those of conservative evangelicals and traditional Catholics.

There have been strong conservatives of the Mormon faith: Ezra Taft Benson, for example. My objection to Mitt Romney is not his Mormonism, but his past liberalism.

No parent can control the actions of an adult child. This means nothing when compared to his statement that he would help RAISE the child.

If this is the best the anti-Guiliani crowd can come up with get used to saying "President Guiliani".
