President Rudy Giuliani?
Forbes ^ | 11/14/2006 | Nathan Vardi

Posted on 11/14/2006 11:02:49 AM PST by Dark Skies

Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bush’s highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.

Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

See post #175 for a clarification of that statement regarding abortion.

Give me Newt over this guy.

Make that two of us.
On FR last nigh I read the post downing Newt for leaving his disable wife. See, the anti Newt group has started before the man even makes a comment on running for president.

I wish I had of thought when reading the post about Newt and I had responded by asking, Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I don't know and, no-re does anyone else why he left his wife.
That is a private issue with conservatives but if you are a Democrat you would be hailed as a great leader.

I disagree. The country doesn't want a true conservative, we've seen that. They won't vote for a far-right republican.

Huh? Maybe I was asleep, because I don't remember Americans having the chance to vote for true conservatives in recent history. It is exactly because of centrist republicans that this election turned out the way it did. Republicans as a whole lost because of Bush--and republican voters sure weren't upset with Bush being too conservative. Quite the opposite. And because of that, some of the very few true conservatives lost elections--not for being too conservative, but for having an R next to their names.

...no one can live up to your asinine expectations.

Not "my" expectations liberal boy. It's called the Constitution. Follow it, or move to France. Take Rudy and John with you...

Why would you say that? He is too talented to sit on the bench, so to speak.

Leadership trumps ideology and Rudy has that in spades. He would destroy any RAT opponent.

Although nothing will change the ideas of those believing that an ultra-rightist could get elected in NYC.

He spent a lot more time with his children than she did.

For every defection of "conservatives" there will be two others joining the party. Besides the constant threats by the "Religious Right" have becoming tedious if it even exists outside of being a Treason Media boogeyman used to frighten the foolish.

Exactly! In this last election here in Oklahoma we had a pro-choice Governor running for the Dims and a very pro-life Istook running for the GOP. Henry beat him 2-1 because Istook ran a louzy campaign and the main issue for Oklahomans was fixing our infrastructure not social issues. After the debacle of our legislature on the rural fightfighters, most of Oklahomans preferred steady as you go. IOTW Pro-Life was not the #1 issue in this very conservative state and it wasn't in 2002 either.

I like Newt. His healthcare planning with Hillary gives me pause and the last line of the plan is very socialistic... not Newt-like IMO, but gives me pause.

As far as bagage is concerned. McCain has baggage, Newt has baggage and Rudy has baggage... and certainly Hillary has baggage, so I'm not certain any of the candidates are going to want to get into their marriages... does Hillary want pictures of Bill and his Canadian Mistress all over the news?

Can you point out ANY instance where a social liberal Repubican has beat a social liberal Democrat for president?

And are you really suggestig that no one but Giuliani can defend this country from terrorism?

Wasn't this man a demoncrat who switched because he is opportunistic? Oh dear, I don't like the thought of him being president of my country at all. :(

NY and CT will be very tough even for him, but NJ is in play
He should do very well in FL, and I think will hold all the "purple" states in the SW (NM, NV, CO).
Overall, his electoral college position is as good as any prospective GOP nominee.

But if religious conservatives want to lose this election this badly, they'll find a way to kill his candidacy. Only to get McCain instead.

Well, as someone said earlier (it may have been you, actually), this election is Rudy's to lose.

Blaming Giuliani for American war casualties may be one of the more despicable things I have read here lately.

Are you saying Giuliani is the cause of the gutless Saudis- in fear of their own even more radical Islamics- ungratefully asking the US to leave? Or for the 15 of 19?

Just how much do you want to bend over for the Saudis and the honor of buying their oil? Do you want to bend far enough so that happy Saudis supply so much oil that even lubrication is not an issue?

How about we also get rid of women in air traffic control, or driving, or not covered head to toe, all things that offend the Saudis.

Most troublesome for Rudy may be his strong advocacy for abortion rights.

The document shows Giuliani's support of abortion has been strident.

The Marlin document also contains a quote from the New York Newsday of Sept. 1, 1989 in which Giuliani says that he so strongly favored abortion, "I'd give my daughter the money for it [an abortion]."

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/3/15/220333.shtml

He was talking about killing her baby. He wasn't talking about aborting a cancer cell.

Because he would have to be a victorious candidate for a MAJOR office to get such a position. Now if he had WON well then it is different though he would still be too inexperienced. We don't need a right wing Obama fantasy here.
