Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bushs highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.
Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

GIULIANI/CUOMO
They could win New York.
Romney/Steele '08 Rudy, McCain and Newt don't have a prayer we need conservatives and you can't get any more conservative than a Mormon and a Catholic. We don't need Washington insiders like McCain and Newt Rudy is a gun grabber. Newt should run for Governor of Georgia.
Last time I checked, Rudy didn't kill people who gets in his way... or have a lot of ill-gotten money sitting in Swiss accounts... nor does he going around saying he's going to take our money so the government can distribute it "for the common good."
It is completely clear that Rudy Giuliani has been pro-abortion since the 1980s. He cannot go back and rewrite history, or reword all his previous quotes. Be prepared for video TV commercials showing his quotes if he chooses to run and claim otherwise.
In this day I think it is difficult to get anyone to run who will take a public stand against abortion and the person who DOES and means business, probably would not be supported by the Repub. party higher-ups.
Sad.
He's not my first choice, but he is better than Hillary.
Yes, remember how many Freepers were wetting themselves when Alan Keyes went to run in Illinois? What he ended up doing was embarassing himself and the party and, in the end, helping elect a ultra Socialist in the same vein as Hillary... and that Ultra Socialist was likely behind the dirty tricks that took out the person that probably could have beat him.
I am NOT trying to pull the GOP to the Left. In fact, I have argued that an overall ideological move to the Left will DOOM the GOP over the short haul AND the long haul. BUT....we do need to return to the mentality that was prevalent in the 1980's and 1990's where WE were the true Big Tent Party. We won all of those Presidential Elections and took over both the House and Senate by being a party of Social Conservatives, Economic Conservatives, Libertarian Conservatives and Foreign Policy Hawks. And we allowed all of those influences to have their rightful say in the party process, even if they did not adhere to ALL of our beliefs. Did Conservatives revolt against Ronald Reagan when he out George Bush (then a clear moderate) on the ticket as VP? NO! Did Moderates revolt in 1988 when Bush selected Conservative Dan Quayle as VP? NO!
We need to return to those days where ALL the groups within the Republican Party work together to bring about the best government possible...we MUST get along because the alternative is too terrifying. But if you cannot see the difference between Rudy and Left Wing Democrats on that which matters MOST (National Security) than future conversation is perhaps fruitless.
I don't know how many ways to put this. 2008 is not going to be a normal year. It's not about our lesser-known politicians, this is going to be a battle royal and right now the Dems reading this are probably saying: YES~! we will beat them hands-down in 08.
Exactly. My own fiance thinks Hillary is a strong woman to be admired (she's not a flaming liberal btw). She looks at her as some kind of martyr for the way she stood by Billy during the Lewinsky ordeal. She sees her successful run into the senate and a great story of a woman who was treated by her husband like dirt, only to come back and make a name for herself. This is not an unusual attitude toward Hillary.
Naturally I am trying to disabuse her of these notions, but the fact of the matter is that the truth about Hillary is very hard to believe if you are casual observer, simply because it is so horrible. People's natural reaction is "that can't possibly be true, she can't be that horrible, it must be a far right lie". That is why we have to beat Hillary with a better candidate, not with bringing out the truth about her. We won't be believed. Rudy is the one man who can do this.
I'm not talking about personal integrity. Neither one of them is worth a crap in that regard. I'm talking about the issues - specifically limiting government and what's related to that.
So go ahead, vote for a nice, conservative, Republican and then live with the results for the next 8 years. Personally, I'd rather wake up to a news conference with Rudy in the morning instead of Hillary.
Let me state this emphatically to you and all those who think that the conservative wing of the party should just "roll over" and accept a liberal like Giuliani, or a crazed madman like John McCain without an outright knock-down, drag-out fight: We will never accept a liberal as a GOP nominee. Get that understood! If it means the GOP loses the presidency in 2008, don't blame us for not supporting your boy, blame yourselves for forcing him on us.
When Clinton ran for POTUS we said "character counts". What? Did that suddenly stop?
Then it was the Dems who said his personal life has nothing to do with...yadda yadda yadda. Give me a break, allready!
Well then say that. Don't give us a Michael-Moore-esque distortion in large bold type.
Ok, a twice divorced guy, who married his cousin, and divorced her, kicked his wife out of Gracie Mansion, to live with his girlfriend, and a gay couple, who is pro stem cell and pro abortion, who has dressed up in drag is really going to win the GOP primary. On what planet exactly?
I'm sure the originating studios have the tapes on file. You can be assured Rudy's opponents have the video! LOL!
