WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The incoming U.S. Congress will review the law mandating 700 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, and may seek to scrap the plan altogether.
Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told reporters this week that he expected to "re-visit" the issue when he becomes chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the 110th Congress, which has a Democratic Party majority.
He said that the high technology Secure Border Initiative, or SBI Net -- essentially a set of monitors, cameras and other integrated surveillance systems to monitor the border -- was a viable alternative.
"We might do away with it, or look at (integrating it into) SBI Net," he said, "A virtual fence rather than a real one."
The Secure Fence Act, one of the laws passed by the GOP-controlled Congress in a pre-election flurry of border security legislation, mandates 700 miles of fencing in five sections, and defines where on the 1,951-mile southern border they should go.

That last election sure taught the open borders lobby a lesson.

My thoughts exactly.
But, of course, the "conservative Democrats" in the House will not allow this to happen, right? Right? Bueller? Anyone?

I don't know about that. I've seen this quote posted more than a few times
"According to Numbers USA, while 11.5% of Pubbies lost their House seats, only 6.7% of Tom Tancredo's reform caucus lost theirs. Sounds to me like those who are serious about doing something to stop the invasion lost at a lower rate than the RINOs as a whole."
So all we need it to have 8 more elections like 2006 and 100% of the republicans will be gone while ONLY 60% OF TANCREDO'S CAUCUS WOULD BE GONE.
THAT WOULD LEAVE TANCREDO IN CONTROL OF THE HOUSE GOP.

Eight more elections like the last one and Canada and Mexico will be building fences to keep people like me from mass emigrations from The People's Gayocracy of Massafornica.

You guys should have passed the Pence plan when you had the chance. But nooooo, Pence's plan was "amnesty", (never mind that it was essentially the same plan proposed by none other than Tancredo himself back in 2003) Pence is a "RINO," and the border purists wanted the whole kit and kaboodle rather than getting the enforcement and a free market guest-worker provision.
Now we're going to get straight up amnesty without the enforcement.

I sometimes wonder if Global Warming has anything to do with all the problems we seem to be experiencing in the world today. Does it affects one's mind, hence the perceived chaotic environment we're living in today?

No, we'll have a 'virtual border' which works well against virtual aliens.

That will make for an interesting Congress. People like Heath Shuler, Brad Ellsworth and Sherrod Brown are to the right of PJ Buchana on trade, but will vote to block any attempt at protecting the borders. I guess they want to impoverish our trading partners more rapidly, so that they cross The Rio Grande at a higher velocity in the coming decades.
