WASHINGTON -- Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter yesterday said Republicans need to move toward the political center if they hope to avoid a repetition of last week's electoral drubbing, which delivered control of both houses of Congress to the Democrats for the first time since 1994.
Mr. Specter, a five-term Republican, in January will pass his gavel on the Senate Judiciary Committee to Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., but he argues that he will still play an important role as a moderate in a Senate with 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats and two independents. "I think the moderates in the party have always held a balance of power. There are only a few of us," he said during his first public meeting with Pennsylvania's Sen.-elect Bob Casey. "But we manage to be significant, if not decisive, on some occasions."

Does this mean that Specter would have to move to the right to be in the middle?

Khomeini urges the world to move toward Islam, too. No thanks!

Oops, wait, it was a move to the RIGHT that pulled that off.
Methinks what the GOP needs to do is affirm a commitment to core conservative values and to quit the corruption.

A moderate is a Democrat in sheep's clothing. He is one of the reasons the Americans lost and the anti-Americans won.

Is there some way to get Specter to move off of the scene? He, like McCain is part of the problem. He reminds me of Gerald Ford. For that matter, he resembles Ford in many ways.

Well, we had a chance to send Toomey to the Senate, but Nooooooooo, Bush wanted another RINO.
I think Santorum also lost a lot of mojo with his suport of Specter over Toomey. Look what it got him.

How much better off would the US and PA be if Pat Toomey were in that Senate seat?
President Bush and Rick Santorum went to the mats for this disgraceful piece of "moderate" crap, and what did it get them?

Ever since that Monday night when Warner and the Gang of 14 waved that 'scrap-of-paper' with the SCOTUS, nominee-deal... the 'moderates' ran the Republican party. The culmination of that sellout was the amnesty bill that now awaits Bush's signature.
Death to all moderates!

Hugh Hewitt wrote a brilliant piece on that event. I think Rush read it on the air last week.
