Iran says they have video shot by an unmanned drone showing a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. (Hat tip: LGF readers.)
Irans Arabic language television station broadcast footage it claimed showed a US aircraft carrier cruising in Gulf waters it said was taken by an unmanned Iranian drone.
The brief minute-long film, which was shown on Al-Alam televisions evening news bulletin, showed wobbly aerial footage of an aircraft carrier stacked with war planes as it sailed.
The televisions anchor said the film, the property of Irans elite Revolutionary Guard, showed a vessel from the US fleet in the Persian Gulf.
A source in the Revolutionary Guard said the drone carried out its mission without US fighter pilots reaching it, the television said.
Heres the photo. (Hat tip: Village Idiots Apprentice.)

Oh, man, it was awesome! Totally unexpected. Everybody on the plane unbuckled their seatbelts and rushed over to my side of the plane to get a look at it. I thought the plane was gonna flip over, lol! Picture this... Beautiful crystal clear sunny day in Hawaii... The sea was just this amazing deep azure color flecked with a zillion whitecaps and ... BOOM!... There it was, this huge shiny black sub on the surface absolutely cooking it. It's wake must've been half a mile long. Its hard for me to gauge, but it seemed like our altitude was only about 1,000 feet. Unbelievable sight.
were you near Pearl? I was there earlier this year. Did the Arizona tour, but no really cool boats that I could see.
Wouldn't it have been great if the MSM had the comments from someone at the navy to balance the
"Iran makes fools of our best technology" spin they had this morning.
Yes, we couldn't have been far from Pearl. We had just flown over the beach area a minute or two earlier I think, and there it was. We were between Oahu and the next little island to the east.
How about a spud gun? Or better yet, a bacon blaster?
Ever read the Tom Clancy book about subs? (Not red october). Lots of cool information in there. I've never seen it in a bookstore, but saw it at a yardsale.
No, haven't read any of his books. Not big on spy novels.
Oh really? </sarcasm>
Any 'squints' out there that can help this 96B figure this one out? C'mon MI pukes!
Oh, didn't even know he wrote non-fiction. I'll keep my eye open for it, thanks. :-)
I generally only observed them it flight. The downwind leg at 300 kts was swept fully back. The break at the crosswind turn reduces to speed to 120 kts in 4000 feet of travel. The wings are then fully forward for best handling at low approach airspeed. I suppose they can sweep them back on deck for space savings. The only time I saw them on the ground was at the Miramar airshow. I don't recall the wings being swept back on the static displays.
There are indeed f-14s on the deck... one is right behind the bridge and several a parked to the left of it.
This is PSYOPS. Not only let the enemy think they can sneak up on you but have the enemy show the people of Iran the most powerful war machine in the world.
adjuster, are you an elevator guy? Only profession I know whit a position called adjuster.
It would have been nice - and it would have been nicer if the Navy had explained that our drones are high tech marvels - flying armed computers with every "geewiz" known to man. And that just because Iranian call their remote controlled toy airplanes "drones", doesn't mean they are drones by our standards. The MSM could also ask why the pictures were so fuzzy - and the time was only a minute...
It was probably quite small, like 4 ft. wing span, or even less. Note that it is steadily overtaken by the carrier doing what? 30 knots?
Nice photo. I'd agree with you the 14s would stick out like a thumb. My guess is A-6s and F-18s. Radar would not be able to pick up a small drone because of clutter.
So you actually went into the Mayport basin? Wow. Yes, that will indeed get the Navy's hackles up.
There is a big difference between security in a secure naval base anchorage and international waters.
Recommend that you do NOT go fishing at Kings Bay, as the boomer fellas take that security real seriously.
