The man arrested on Saturday for sending more than a dozen envelopes containing "fake anthrax" to anti-war celebrities, journalists, and politicians may have ties to the conservative supersite Free Republic, RAW STORY has found.
Chad Castagana, a 39 year old Californian named as the FBI's prime suspect in the case, is due in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles today, where procecutors are expected to file criminal complaint against him for sending threatening letters through the U.S. mail. Castagana has an extensive online history, often writing about science fiction and conservative politics, and many bloggers are convinced that he is also a contributor at the conservative activist Free Republic website under the name Marc Costanzo.
Earlier today, users at the liberal websites Democratic Underground and Daily Kos brought to light the similarities between Castagana's Internet footprint and Costanzo's writings at Free Republic, and RAW STORY has found a series of eyebrow-raising connections between the two men.

for anthrax attacks.

I saw a reference to anthrax/powder when I signed on to internet (top story of AOL). I searched and found this story on Google and emailed info about it to marc costanzo (not realizing at that point it was posted). Pretty serious accusation of the Kos & DU nuts.

Saw the story and immediately emailed it to him? Sounds like a coconspirator to me?
Here is another post of his. He seemed to have an interest in the powder stories.
"A frequent commentor on Democratic Underground, Castagna was also a regular on the right-wing message board Free Republic under the nom de rant, Marc Costanzo."
That's not what it says at that link now. (Did someone edit it?) When I go to the article that sentence reads:
"More about Castagna came out via a commentor on Democratic Underground, who pointed out Castagna was also a regular on the right-wing message board Free Republic under the nom de rant, Marc Costanzo."

The DUmmies pressured Radar to edit the story. They have a thread about it.

I thought you passed the final and got your code ring? No?
The FR entry is basically just one big slam on FR...the Criticism section is comparatively huge.....the longest I've seen at Wiki.
But there's no lock and no dispute. It's like, no one at FR cares.
The DU entry is constantly locked over disputes. The Criticism section is cut down to nothing and tagged with a "Weasel Words" entry. The links are "questionable" because they lead to sites critical of DU.
I always find it amusing.
Here's another one. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2705695&mesg_id=2705983

13. Wait. Hold on a minute. He just emailed that terrorist? Just now?
And somewhere there's a gov't. agent opening that email, carefully noting its contents and source.
Let us know how that works out for you, Pgh. I get the feeling you'll be the one with the surprised eyes.

I did just what I said. I assumed it was a lie made up by DU & Daily Kos, and wanted to let the Freeper know. That is all there is to it. I didn't email him, I FeepMailed him. The reason I knew the Freep nickname was cause it was in the stupid article.
How come they know more about this man, who may or MAY NOT be a Freeper, than we do? Makes me wonder how they got this info.
This kookoo's looking at a stint in the pokey. Hope he writes an opus before they send him up the river!
well you can't freepmail him now, his account has been closed/banned.
I posted that article... Did not see what he wrote then, till now. Funny thing is, I didn't even remember who the anthrax was mailed to in 2001 (party affiliation). I was horrified by it and mad at people who do copycat fake ones. Takes resources away from real terror, and God forbd anyone ever has a heart condition who opens one... I hope they eventually find whoever did the 2001 real ones.
Goes to show the importance of also having a great tag line. You never know when a lot of strangers will be reading it! :)
I didn't even know the guy, and was afraid he would think I was a lefty, but tend to alert people to things they might want to know about. I assumed the DU'ers just assumed something, and possibly libeled him.
