Another observation: all the non-religious stuff (trees, lights, and the such) contributes to the appeal of the Christmas season. If that bothers you, close your eyes or lower your head and walk on by.
As to your remark about religion being shoved down your throat, bear in mind that contrary to the media crap one hears, this IS a Christian country and we are entitled to celebrate our primary holiday. If it bothers others, well, they can just go pound sand. All said in the spirit of the season, of course.
sent an email and tried to call, I am on hold now, recording says the wait is 20 minutes. Hopefully they are hearing from a lot of people.
Are we sure this isn't another urban legend? If true, I'll be shopping elsewhere for those big purchases during the next 6 weeks. After all, they don't recognize the Christmas season.
Ok, gotta be the one person to disagree on all this stuff. Yesterday, as I was taking somebody to the airport, I noticed the Christmas things up. K-Mart had already started BEFORE Halloween with the christmas display. When is it proper to actually wait until, before getting in trouble with Gibson and O'Reilly?
When I was a kid, Christmas was not even started until maybe the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest. Now, stores are supposed to wish us Merry Christmas in October? I think a week is reasonable, and that stores should not ban their employees for saying it. I just want to be the crank that points out that it was Veteran's Day week-end we were celebrating this week-end not Christmas.
Let's be sensible. During Yom Kippur or Rosh Hoshannah, it would be offensive to wish Jews "Happy Holidays," especially if you knew what day it was and you knew your friend or office mate was going to be absent because of those high holy days.
I agree one doesn't wish someone "happy Yom Kippur," but it is entirely appropriate to wish them a happy holiday for Rosh Hoshannah. Or "Happy New Year," whichever you prefer.
More idiotic liberals. If it weren't for Christmas, they'd be no holiday shopping.

Bill O'Reilly mentioned Best Buy's anti-Christmas plans on his show last night, so maybe the pressure on them will go up......
But, Halloween stems from "All Saints Day". That is a religious day. Same for Valentine's Day. That is "Saint Valentine." Then there is "St. Patrick's Day". There isn't an easy way to extricate these days from the saints that they are named after.
Christmas has morphed, I agree.
But, I would rather spend time practicing and celebrating Christ's Mass, than I would complaining about it. The only ones who will listen are those who already disagree with keeping Christmas centered on Christ. Otherwise it is just preaching to the choir.
Besides, isn't Easter the more important holiday of the two?
Sears had "Merry Christmas" all over the store this past weekend. For the record, it was November 12. I bought a jacket, anyway, because it was on clearance, but I'm still annoyed.
I suggest those who feel merrily Christmasy in November go to Sears.
I don't plan to shop there anyway. Just another big box store with junk and not so great prices. I had a run in with one of their exit door checkers about 67 years ago at Christmas time. Any company that assumes I am a thief right after checking through a register is not a company I will ever buy from again.
Best Buy is on my list of banned stores. When they lift the ban on Christmas, I will lift the ban on shopping there. Simple!

At our Ehkerd's pharmacy, they were laying out the Christmas stuff before HALLOWEEN.
It's such a joy saying to young kids... "Yes, I know the REST of the world is already celebrating Christmas. WE are going to wait." Repeatedly.

LOL! Us, too. We usually don't put up a Christmas tree until after December 20th, even. I've just started cleaning in anticipation of Advent!
I think you are wrong. Look what happened in the past...both Target and Wal-Mart made the mistake of turning away from Christmas...both heard from their customers LOUD AND CLEAR and both say "Merry Christmas" this year.
Action works. You are free to sit on your hands and do nothing...but don't tell us not to take action....
