I hope you are right, but doubt it!

Different countries have been able to get subs around carriers when a carrier and it's battle group are not at a heightened alert status.
During a heightened alert status the little egg roll sub would have to get by 2 LA class attack subs and a host of other ASW assets, looking for it.

Its likely we very well knew where the submarine was and did not want to TIP them off to the fact. That's the way I would play it. Make them think there're invisible, fat dumb and happy.

#2 is classified and you are posting it? BTW, I don't know what kind of secret this is, I've always assumed there were at least 2 subs in every group.

"Why are we doing this?" - Well, I think Clinton set a new precedent in shoveling our nuclear secrets out the back door faster than they could be brought in the front door by our scientists and researchers, in the interest of campaign dollars, his Nobel Peace prize, and, most importantly, his legacy.

...I want to know why CNN, Durbin, Rockefeller, Reid and Hillary Clinton feel that we need to feed them (China) any and all information necessary to make them feel "EQUAL" to us. It is the Libs entire PLAN for self defense. If China FEELS EQUAL to us they will no do anything, and leave us alone. ...You're spot on.
Psychologists have a name for that behaviour, I don't recall what it is. Kind of like the "Stockholm Syndrome" except this is when hostage victims will rat out the stronger hostages that are planning escape, all in order to curry favor with their captors and try to keep the captors from killing them.

Getting the feeling that Gertz sees a Chinaman under every bed. Couldn't be about selling his book, now could it?

If the sub had been detected, what could we have done about it? Obviously, not much.If they were detected (likely) you wouldn't want to tell them what you heard, especially if they were noisy.
Record noise traces for later comparison and training simulations as well.
Also, see how well they detected (or seemed to detect) you.

I was never sure whether or not the S-3's shortcomings were platform related or tactical. More often than not they went up without an operational FLIR or radar, rendering them pretty much useless for anything but tanking up lawn darts. SH-60Fs and P-3Cs have always been much more effective in the ASW role.

Interesting. I'm sure they're watching our actions in Iraq with keen interest.

Bush has been held hostage by Chinese who own $1 trillion of US govt debt...
Pelosi was warned last week by a Chinese official not to enact trade barriers...
We are now checkmated by our dependence on cheap Chinese goods.

Disclosure of the incident comes as Adm. Gary Roughead, commander of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet, is making his first visit to China. It seems to me that our intent is to use this event to our advantage.

Say what?
Then what are we using for carrier-based fixed-wing ASW?
That sounds incredibly foolish.

I read that in a recent wargame involving a Swedish diesel sub, the Swedish sub managed to sink the Reagan and a hunter killer nuke.

Prange's tome is the best on the subject. To digest it is to know the absurdity of the conspiracy theorists... and to realize that the nation was TRULY... asleep. You might also like to read his book on Midway.

That's the one statement about this that is indubitably true, and worth saying again.
