There's more: A Chinese sub apparently was able to sneak-up on the USS Kittyhawk today, within torpedo range, then surfaced and waved! Just heard on DRUDGE! Umm. Are we allowed to sink Chinese subs that shadow our ships? We are not at war with China so far as I know. I thought that our navy used to play chicken every now and then with the Soviets but I don't think we sank them.

"...Umm. Are we allowed to sink Chinese subs that shadow our ships? We are not at war with China so far as I know. Everybody tries-out their stuff just to see what works and what doesn't.
Not unlike the old Bear-games over the Arctic. I met some USAF pilots once who had done that duty in the 80's. Their stories were funny-as-hell.

I suspect that the Kittyhawk had known they were there for a while, probably already knew the serial numbers of the boat. Chinese subs aren't exactly stealthy.
